Phat Phat Awarded Small Business Loan Grant | | |
The Village of Schaumburg Economic Development Department is proud to share that Phat Phat has been awarded a $15,000 Small Business Loan grant through the village’s Community Development Block Grant Program. The restaurant specializes in Southeast Asian cuisine and will get support to launch a marketing campaign and to cover rent and inventory expenses. Congratulations to Denny Prawira and Ohki Akimoto on securing this forgivable loan, which will help fuel Phat Phat’s continued growth here in Schaumburg!
The Village of Schaumburg's Small Business Loan Program supports economic growth and job creation for low- and moderate-income individuals. Eligible applicants can receive 80% matched, forgivable loans of up to $15,000 to fund project expenses such as:
- Staff salaries and operating capital
- Lease/acquisition of tenant space/property
- Acquisition of inventory, supplies and raw materials
- Acquisition of furniture, fixtures, equipment and tools (with or without installation costs)
- Marketing materials and advertising including website development and servicing and marketing campaigns (limited to 50% of loan)
A business must be in operation for two years and must retain, create, or make available at least 20 weekly payroll hours, not including owner’s hours, and at least 51% or more of total weekly payroll hours are low-to moderate-income positions.

| | ComEd Power for Good Grant Program | |
ComEd is now accepting applications for its Power for Good Grant Programs, offering a total of $515,000 in funding to support community-focused projects across northern Illinois. The grants are available to nonprofit organizations working in environmental sustainability, public safety and clean transportation, and the arts.
The three programs currently open include Green Region (administered by Openlands), Powering Safe Communities (administered by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus), and Powering the Arts (administered by the League of Chicago Theatres). Together, the programs aim to strengthen communities, improve quality of life, and expand access to essential resources and cultural experiences.
Applications for all three grant programs are due by 5 p.m. CT on March 13, 2026. Since its inception, ComEd’s Power for Good initiative has delivered nearly $6 million in funding to community-based projects throughout northern Illinois.
