Perspectives on Growth, Leadership, and Change for Small Credit Unions

Insights on the next generation, strategic decisions, and the member experience

Attracting younger members, adapting to new technology, and planning for long-term growth remain important priorities for credit union leaders. This edition of Small Credit Union Connection takes a closer look at these topics, with practical insights and resources to support decision-making in an evolving financial services landscape.

We also feature Lisa Laughnane, CEO of MyCom Federal Credit Union, who shares how her credit union is enhancing the member experience through digital improvements, expanded benefits, and a continued focus on financial wellness.

Earlier this month, we enjoyed connecting with small credit union leaders during our networking session at APEX 2026 at Mohegan Sun. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to exchange ideas, share experiences, and connect with fellow leaders. These conversations help us better understand your priorities and identify opportunities for CCUA to provide meaningful support.

From strategic planning assistance to solutions that support membership growth, CCUA continues to offer resources tailored to the needs of smaller institutions. We encourage you to explore the features in this edition and reach out to our team to learn more about the programs and services available to your credit union.

Winning the Next Generation of Members

Attracting younger members remains a challenge for many small credit unions, particularly with growing competition from fintechs offering fast, convenient solutions. For Gen Z consumers facing unexpected expenses, access to small-dollar loans can be an important factor in choosing where to establish a financial relationship. By offering flexible lending options that address immediate financial needs, small credit unions can strengthen their appeal to younger generations and build lasting member relationships. Fintech partnerships can also help smaller institutions expand these services without significant investments in technology or staffing.
