Deepen Faith and Relationships, and Learn Something NEW!

After many months of research, conversations, prayers and surveys, we are pleased to announce the expansion of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church's Small Group Ministries!

Winter 2023 Offerings

Cold-Case Christianity

led by Dr. J. Paul Burkhart

For all of God's faithful who are also forensics and crime show aficionados! This is a study in Christian Apologetics.

Sundays, 10:10 am until 10:55 am, every week, beginning January 22, 2023- March 12, 2023. The location will be determined based on class size - class will be held at church.

The eight-week study on Cold-Case Christianity is based on the award-winning, best-selling book by J. Warner Wallace,  cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker and best-selling author, based in CA. After being an atheist for decades, Detective Wallace became a Christ-follower at the age of thirty-five after investigating the claims of the New Testament gospels using his skill set as a detective. The first Friday Gathering will be held on January 27th, at Lisa Chase's home at 7 pm, (6331 Bennington Road, 17050) and the Sunday Gathering at the Church, following the Gathering Service. For Friday's gathering, everyone is asked to bring their favorite appetizer, and for Sunday's gathering, a bagged lunch. For both, a sense of adventure, community and FUN!  Bring a friend or two!

The group will meet monthly or bi-monthly, on the best date (either Fridays or Sundays, or a combination of the two), that is the best for those who want to get involved. Group parameters will be established at the first few meetings.

Exploring Spiritual Practices in Daily Living

Led by Beth Biery, certified Spiritual Director

Ever find a day goes by and God was only in the periphery of your awareness? Pulled in so many directions your desire for connection with God seems to take a back burner?

Let’s add some faith-filled practices to our every day, together! “Activities of Daily Living” or ADL has become a medical term reflecting how one is functioning with key life tasks. As Christians, isn’t our intimacy with the Lord a key life function? For me it is THE key, thus the name ADL Group.

This group will meet regularly for a short season (about six Friday mornings, 10:00 to 11:30 am, February to March). Each week, a new spiritual practice will be introduced and practiced during the week. During the next gathering, the experiences with that practice may be shared, and another practice introduced and explored. Each week will not require that you have been present for the prior, yet in the spirit of the small group initiative here at Silver Spring, we hope that you will attend all or as many as possible. The weekly sessions may explore spirituality type, spiritual timeline, breath prayer, centering prayer, and welcoming prayer, depending on the community that emerges.

If you have interest, please email Beth Biery at [email protected]. Other meeting times may be available, so please share if the time or the day of the week is not convenient for you.

Tentative dates, again, subject to group needs:

February 3, 10, 17 and March 3, 24, and 31
