Youth Programming

Student Voices on Segregation, Integration,

and Belonging

NY Appleseed co-hosted a youth gathering with Abolition and Education Justice Collective (AEJC) and The Circle Keepers to educate and uplift youth voices on school segregation and school integration. We started off with some grounding singing to affirm community power and collective care, and then students learned a brief history on school segregation and how school integration can combat inequities. They crafted freedom dreaming collages in response to the question, “How would you envision your school as a safe space that you are excited to learn in?” At the end, they merged their collages together to create a vibrant freedom dreaming mural.

Huge thank you to AEJC and The Circle Keepers for their support in making this event happen! Stay tuned for more youth programming and good vibes.

Education Uncensored: Unveiling the Narratives

That Matter

Attend Teens Take Charge's panel event and be a part of the conversation! This youth event will feature testimonies from students, and Specialized High School Alumni and Attendees from communities will share their stories as well. Ranging from ages 17 to 21, these individuals will engage in conversations around race, activism, and the fight against school segregation and inequity in NYC Public Schools.

NY Appleseed will be guest speaking on the history of school segregation and what we do to advocate for policies and programming that further truly equitable, inclusive, and integrated schools. This dialogue is open to everyone and there will be opportunity for questions and community engagement!

Cleaning House - PA/PTA Financials

PTAlink's last webinar Cleaning House - PA/PTA Financials helped parent leaders beat back cabin fever. We were joined by guest speakers including: Tax Specialist (Enrolled Agent) Ami Hassler, who has worked directly with many NYC PA/PTAs, Shardée Grey from Brooklyn Coop Federal Credit Union, and Rachel Baltodano, Co-President of the D25 Presidents’ Council, all of whom supported PA/PTAs with their complex financial questions. They answered questions on taxes and audits, opening a bank account, and working with an accountant. They even discussed managing fraud and data security.

Missed it? Don't fret- view the recording here. See you at our March webinar!

Impact Dashboard

We're excited to give you a sneak peak at our new Impact Dashboard! Our friends over at North Arrow developed this tool to document and communicate how our work engages community members and drives impact across our programs in the area of community outreach, policy advocacy, and research. We've considered for some time how to best measure and report on our progress and impact, and we're thrilled to now have a platform that does that effectively. Stay tuned for the big reveal!

Our Schools. Our Future: Conversations With the Chancellor

Chancellor Kamar H. Samuels has announced dates for Our Schools. Our Future: Conversations with the Chancellor, a five-borough community engagement series. The goal of this tour is for NYCPS leadership to engage with students, families, educators, staff, and community partners on critical school issues, and to hear ideas from families about how to better involve them in decision making processes. In these conversations, Chancellor Samuels will reflect on what safety, academic rigor, and true integration look like in practice.
