Committed to Building
A Better Tomorrow
Dear Friends,
October was a big month for Smart Village Movement, with new milestones and exciting developments.
The SVM USA team was invited to attend the 2021 Berkeley Innovation Forum, an exclusive knowledge-sharing professional networking event to discuss Open-Innovation and learn about its application in the social sector.
At UC Berkeley, our Chairman Dr. Anil Shah was recognized as a 'Builder of Berkeley' in a ceremony that celebrated his extraordinary philanthropy and contribution toward the school’s programs and learning centers, lighting the way for deep research and interventions in India's rural markets.
On October 13, we welcomed the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma to inaugurate our Apollo Hospitals-Telehealth Services Digital Dispensary at East Garo Hills district. Support from a progressive government is the key to the successful implementation of our rural pilot projects. The encouragement from the HCM and the community's enthusiastic participation deeply validate our efforts to bring tech-driven interventions to rural communities.
In our quest for access to clean water, SVM partnered with Tata Swach to establish a water purification system in Meghalaya that provides an additional source of water with cutting-edge methodology.
Thank you, as always, for being with us!
Your SVM Team

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya - Shri. Conrad K Sangma inaugurated our Apollo Hospitals - TeleHealth Services Digital Dispensary in Rongjeng, East Garo Hills District amidst enthusiastic participation from the community. These Digital Dispensaries will lead the community towards a more digitized healthcare system driven by modern state-of-the-art technology. The HCM praised these interventions in a Tweet saying"Through technology-driven interventions, the Digital Dispensary will provide its services with minimal cost to patients." SVM has five Apollo clinics across Meghalaya to bridge the gap in the rural healthcare sector through accessible, affordable, and efficient health services. The digital dispensary will be equipped with teleconsultation, basic diagnostics, and medicines with minimal cost to the patient. The idea is to bring efficient health services nearer to the villages to reduce the out-of-pocket expenditure. Each dispensary will cater to the 20-25 villages in the area. See Video here

Access to Clean Water With Tata Swach Installation
|
|
In partnership with Tata Swach Tech Jal, Smart Village Movement has established a Water purification system at Nongthymmai Lumthangding Village in Meghalaya. This system will be operating at a capacity of supplying 200 liters of potable water per hour. The location of the setup - Umpohliew Eitksar Viewpoint is a popular tourist attraction. This system also serves as a water refilling station for tourists selling purified water at Rs. 5 per bottle, thus promoting the use of eco-friendly reusable bottles and reducing plastic waste from disposable bottles. The filter will be run by the Self Help Group (SHG) of the village, creating alternative livelihood options for women. The machine is easy to operate with a minimum workforce. The SVM Team is working with SHGs across Meghalaya to identify more entrepreneurship-based business models, stay tuned to learn more.
