Monthly Reflections from Katana Abbott

Designing Your Next Chapter on Your Terms

“It’s not about retiring from your life — it’s about redesigning it to reflect who you are now.”

I always thought I would be retired by now.

But today, I don’t think I will ever truly retire — because I love what I’m doing so much that it doesn’t feel like work.

What has changed is not how hard I work… but how I’ve designed my life.

Today, I have the flexibility to travel, even live abroad for extended periods of time. I can schedule my days to include exercise, time with my family, and the things I love — baking, golf, painting, and being with friends.

But it wasn’t always this way.

Closing the Capital Gap Isn't Charity - It's an Economic Imperative

By Corinne Goble, SWT Guest

We’ve been telling the wrong story about women and capital.

For years, the conversation has framed the funding gap for women entrepreneurs as a matter of fairness—something to fix because it’s the right thing to do. And while equity matters, that framing misses a much larger truth:

Closing the capital gap for women isn’t charity. It’s one of the clearest, most underleveraged economic opportunities we have.

Women are starting businesses at high rates, especially in midlife and beyond. They’re launching consulting firms, product companies, service businesses, and community-driven enterprises. Many bring decades of professional experience, deep networks, and a sharpened sense of purpose to what they build next.

Transitioning from Employee to Entrepreneur: The Mindset Shift

By Shannon Russell, SWT Guest

Moving from being an employee to becoming an entrepreneur isn’t just about changing what you do, it’s about changing how you think.

You may have years of experience, valuable skills, and a strong work ethic, but entrepreneurship requires a new perspective.

As an employee, your role is usually well-defined. You have a salary, set hours, a clear team structure, and someone to report to.

When you become an entrepreneur, you’re responsible for every aspect of your business: sales, marketing, product design, financial management, customer service, hiring—and more.

While you’ll learn quickly how you want your business to run, you’ll also face more pressure and uncertainty than ever before.
