The New Conversation Around Aging

“Living longer is not the same as living well — and we have more influence over that than we may think.”

You’ve probably noticed that women today have a whole new relationship with aging.

Many women — like me — have no plans to retire. We are in our second or even third acts, doing work that feels meaningful, purposeful, and deeply fulfilling. We stay active, we take care of ourselves, and we continue to grow.

And yet, at the same time, I see something else happening all around me.

Women in their 60s and beyond — vibrant, intelligent, engaged women — are also facing real health challenges. Reduced bone density, hormone imbalances, autoimmune issues, cancer, and even conditions like Parkinson’s.

Thriving, Not Just Surviving: 10 Ways to Support Your Health, Longevity & Vitality

By Katana Abbott, CFP®, SWE Founder and SWT Host

For over 35 years, my focus has been helping women 50+ create lives they love with financial confidence and abundance.

But thriving in your next chapter includes much more than money — because without our health and happiness, all the money in the world means very little.

As women, we are living longer than ever before. In fact, many of us can expect to live 25–30 years beyond traditional retirement age, and women now make up nearly 80% of centenarians — one of the fastest-growing demographics in the world.

Does Aging Need Rebranding

By Susan Salenger, Previous SWT Guest

People tend to think of getting older as a slow and steady decline, an inevitable road to illness, incapacity, and mental confusion. But now that I’m just beginning my 80s, my take on aging is very different from what it used to be.

I published my first book last year at 79, and I’m already thinking about book two. I continue to make new friends, work out four times a week with a trainer, and I just had one of my TikTok videos go viral at over 116,000 views. (TikTok: Grandma.Gains)

Most people want to live a long life, but few want to get old. We worry about aging; we fear it and fight against it. Yet even so, while we’re quick to notice when other people are starting to age, we persist in believing that it won’t happen to us.

This month we explore two powerful perspectives on how women can take control of their health, vitality, and longevity — combining both medical insight and lifestyle wisdom to help us thrive in our next chapter.
