Unity Day is an event created by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to share messages of hope and support against bullying!

We are asking everyone to please wear something ORANGE on October 18th! Plus, between NOW and October 17th, email us a photo of yourself (& friends/family) wearing orange, along with your personal anti-bullying message. We’ll share them on social media for Smithtown Goes Orange!

Students who submit photos with anti-bullying messages will earn 1 hour of community service credit. *

To apply students will need to submit a completed application and letter to Town Supervisor Wehrheim stating why they would like to serve. Students who are accepted will be appointed by the Town Board to a two year term as a YAB member.


Adult members are needed as well. Only the application is required for adult appointments.

Sweetbriar Spooktacular -


Seeking SCARY Volunteers!!!





Dates: October 20th & October 21st

Time: 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Location: Sweetbriar Nature Center

Sweetbriar is hosting their annual Spooktacular event and are looking for HS student volunteers to help with:



  • Scream Trail scares (Wear all dark clothing & whatever Halloween costume & make-up you want to scare people on the trails).

  • Game Helpers (Dress up in costume & make-up and help with the event game tables).

Horizons Counseling & Education Center and the Youth Bureau invite you to be as creative as you want! Please submit your art as an image (jpeg, png). Include your initials, grade and school on the bottom of the sheet.


Students in grades 6-12 will receive a Town of Smithtown Certificate for 1 hour of community service.

K-5 will receive Certificate of Participation.

1 donation box will include:

  • 4 cans vegetables
  • 2 cans cranberry sauce
  • 1 large (or 2 small) can yams
  • 1 64 oz. juice or juice boxes
  • cake mix/brownie mix/ corn muffin mix
  • 1 box instant potatoes
  • 2 boxes stove top stuffing
  • 3 cans fruit
  • 2 turkey gravy
  • any non-perishable "extras" you'd like to include- a bag of candy, hot cocoa, cookies, icing, applesauce, etc.

Students can earn community service credit in TWO ways!

What better way to celebrate the end of the Fitness, Friends, & Fun - Adaptive Sports & Socialization Summer Program than having breakfast and bouncing around with new pals!


Last month we rented out Flight Adventure Park in Ronkonkoma for a fun morning with bagels and private access to the indoor trampoline park.

We provide fully funded, enrichment programming for all of our township school districts at no cost! 


There are many scheduling options, and all are flexible by design to best meet the needs of each organization that we work with.  Program topics can even be tailored to meet scouting badge requirements for local scout troops.


Programs are designed to be provided in a multi-session series to be most effective.  Various sessions & topics can be broken down for a shorter series or one time/one topic workshop.

Community Partner Agency Opportunities:

Become a Suffolk County Youth Council Leader of Tomorrow!

Seeking new members (ages 14-21) , jr. mentors (ages 21-25) , and mentors ( adult professionals) who reside in Suffolk County.


Students meet every other Wednesday from 6:00 PM 7:00 PM via zoom .


Some in- person meetings will be held in Hauppauge at the H. Lee Dennison Building, and students will be given more than 2 weeks notice of when these will be scheduled.

Soccer Buddies is back!

Saturdays October 7th to November 11th

3:00 pm to 4:45 pm


We are helping to find student volunteers once again for Smithtown Kickers Top Soccer -Soccer Buddies program!


*No prior soccer experience is necessary to volunteer.

Only need to have a desire to help participants have a fun time while learning the basics of the game!

Town of Smithtown Horizons Counseling & Education Center

Horizons Counseling and Education Center is an OASAS-licensed not-for-profit agency funded to provide adolescent & adult treatment, prevention and education services for drug and alcohol related problems.

Horizons offers individual & group therapy, medication assisted treatment, mental health care (related to substance abuse),DWI education & more. They also offer research-based prevention programming.

Smithtown Historical Society Volunteers Needed!

Animal Care on the Farm:

The Smithtown Historical Society is looking for compassionate folks who are able to dedicate (minimum) 2 hours weekly (am or pm) doing farm chores and spending time with their sheep, goats, bunnies, ponies & chickens. 


Basic chores include:

  • cleaning coop & paddocks;
  • feeding/haying and watering;
  • and giving the time, care and support that each of our animals need and deserve to thrive & maintain their health & well-being.  


Help needed all year long!  


Reliable volunteers are NEEDED. No experience necessary!  Adults needed. Students ages 10-18 welcome with adult accompanying them. Community Service Credit available.

Library teen volunteer opportunities are open to those in grades 6-12 (up to age 18), unless otherwise noted.


The library also offers one-hour volunteer sessions by appointment! Teens can spend time at the Library working on a variety of projects to help make a difference in our community. Teens may schedule up to two time slots per month. For more information or to schedule a session, contact any Reference Desk.
