FORSAKEN

In the distance, there were silhouettes strategically placed on the outside of town far from the inquisitive eyes of those who would gaze and then suddenly become sickened and disgusted by the horrid sights and stench of dying flesh.  Here on this hillside, perfection was hung on a cross between two thieves...not there by accident. The words 'beaten', 'mocked', 'spat upon' and 'crucified'...marked Him...forever.

Perhaps this event was the worst situation ever experienced by any human being. Yet, this was not the most difficult part of the story. In this desolate but historic moment, we hear words from the Savior that rings out for all humanity to hear: "Father, why have you forsaken me?"

Forsaken?

While experiencing an excruciating death on a wooden cross, denial by his closest followers, and betrayal by those who referred to him as "teacher" and "prophet," God turned away from the suffering of His own Son.  Sound familiar?

Each of us have experienced times when it seems we have been "forsaken." Maybe it was the time people turned their back on us, or when family members walked away....for good. Perhaps it was when those whom we had great confidence in somehow let us down...on numerous occasions. Even though we prayed sincere and earnest prayers, the cries for help often felt as though they were not going beyond the ceiling. In those moments, we may have begun to sense that we were, in fact, "forsaken."

Most of the children and young people on our campus basically feel the same way.  More often than not, parents and families have abandoned these precious ones and left them all alone.  So, what is the answer to this dilemma?

The answer can only be found in a single thought that I sensed in my spirit just a few days ago.  It goes something like this:

An ultimate sacrifice will inevitably result...
in a victorious outcome!

In the midst of feelings of loneliness, you can rest assured that God is still there. He has not forsaken you, even though you may feel like He has. God will help you to know beyond any doubt that He is going to turn what appears to be defeat into ultimate victory.

Do not fear! You are not forsaken!
