Alamo Colleges District Names Macias As District 2 Trustee
At a special board meeting, the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees named Jose Antonio Macias, Jr. as the new District 2 trustee. He will serve until a special election is held in conjunction with the general election in May 2020. Macias has served on the board of the Judson Independent School District since 2010. During his tenure on the board, he led in the establishment of the formation of internal audit mechanisms; the creation of an anonymous Fraud & Abuse Hotline; a 90% increase in high school seniors preparing and taking the SAT; a strong commitment and support for early college high schools and dual credit; the collaboration of Communities in Schools and Our Kids Can; and an emphasis on creating a comprehensive prevention and intervention plan to address social and emotional barriers to learning.
District Convocation Kicks Off New Academic Year
An enthusiastic crowd of Alamo Colleges District trustees, administrators, employees and faculty members celebrated the start of a new academic year at the 2019 District Convocation in San Antonio College’s (SAC) McAllister Auditorium. SAC President Dr. Robert Vela welcomed all attendees to the college and recognized the keynote speaker, Dr. Laura Rendon, a SAC alumna. Board Vice Chair Joe Alderete, Jr. shared greetings from the board and noted the highlights from the past academic year.
St. Philip's College Celebrates Topping Out Of New Tourism, Hospitality And Culinary Arts Building
St. Philip's College celebrated the "topping out" of the new Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts building under construction at the college. This was the first “topping out ceremony to be held for a project funded by the district’s 2017 $450 million bond program approved by Bexar County voters. The building will provide a state-of-the-art facility for the college’s award-winning and internationally recognized tourism, hospitality and culinary arts program. The college broke ground on the new facility in October 2018.
San Antonio College Signs Social Work Program Agreement With Angelo State University
San Antonio College (SAC) and Angelo State University (ASU) signed a memorandum of understanding to create the Social Work Direct Path program, which will make it easier and more affordable for students studying social work to pursue a bachelor’s degree. With the new program, SAC graduates will be able to transfer to ASU and earn a bachelor’s in social work through an online program. In addition, the students will take one ASU course on the SAC campus.

Palo Alto College Announces Logistics Degree Partnership With Wayland Baptist University
Palo Alto College (PAC) and Wayland Baptist University (WBU) announced a partnership allowing PAC students to transfer up to 72 credit hours to WBU toward a bachelor of applied science in logistics. The Logistics and Supply Chain Management program at PAC prepares students for various career fields in the logistics industry, including transportation, warehousing, distribution, inventory control, purchasing, and international logistics.
