COVID Update

Updated Guidance

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and SDCOE have updated the COVID-19 guidance as of this week.

All student and staff positive cases will continue to be logged and tracked and consultants will continue to guide return to all staff and students entered in the tracking log.

Recommendations for people who test positive:

The updated guidance will allow individuals to follow a more symptom-based approach as they usually do for other illnesses.

  • Individuals who develop symptoms and test positive must stay home for 24 hours from the onset of symptoms.
  • A child or staff member with COVID-19 can now return to school or a childcare setting if their symptoms are mild and improving and they have had no fever for 24 hours. They are no longer required to stay home for 5 days.
  • If the student or staff member with COVID-19 never developed symptoms, they may continue to attend school or a childcare setting.

Students and staff must follow the masking guidance below:

  • Student masking indoors is strongly recommended through day 10 after testing positive.
  • Staff masking indoors is REQUIRED through day 10 after testing positive per CAL/OSHA.
  • Symptom onset is day zero. If there are no symptoms, day zero is the test collection date. Individuals who have symptoms and test positive must stay home for at least 24 hours from the onset of symptoms.
  • The potential infectious period is 2 days before the date of symptoms began or the positive test date (if no symptoms) through Day 10. (Day 0 is the symptom onset date or positive test date).

Please continue to review responsible digital citizenship expectations with your students.
