Transcript: "Hi, I'm Mitchelle Stephenson, spokesperson for the City of Annapolis, and I'm here at City Dock today, giving you a sneak peek behind the construction fence at the work that's happening.
I'm standing about five feet away from the original footprint of the Burtis House. About a year and a half ago, we moved Burtis House 35 feet away so that this new foundation could be poured. Previously, Burtis House sat at sea level and suffered regularly from sunny day or tidal flooding inundations.
This new foundation has moved it up six feet, protecting it and keeping it high and dry. In about a week and a half, crews will come out and they'll move the Burtis House back into position, protecting it for generations to come.
If you look over to my right, you can see the concrete foundation for the new deployable flood barrier, which will protect this area from storm surges. Those are the Hurricane Isabels, last January's storm surge, where we saw five, six, seven feet of flooding from storm surge.
Both of these things together will protect Annapolis City Dock into the future, and this is what resiliency looks like.
