For Bride of Cyclops Con we showcase some events from next weekend's show, and also give you the low-down on how to win some autographed material at the closing ceremonies of the convention.

We've also got an article on the cosmic horror of sword and sorcery, we discuss the upcoming voting for the DCC sticker contest, and remember the late Charles Saunders. And Danger Stranger returns to Twitch tomorrow night for your viewing pleasure.

Plus it's the final hours for the Judge's Guild Collector's Edition Vol. 2 Kickstarter and the beginning of the new DCC Dice Kickstarter!

Let's get to it!
Below is a list of games that we wanted to call out. Some are Premier Events that we’ve detailed in earlier posts, like the DCC Open Tournament: Return to the Starless Sea or Harley Stroh’s insane DCC Battle Royale, while others are Road Reaver games or standard events that caught our eye.

No matter their origin, each of these games is one that is one we’re sure you’ll love to play. Each event links directly to their sign up page, so be sure to head over to Tabletop Events and get signed up today!

The folks at Studio 9 Games have agreed to share a bit of a A Strange Night at the Pint n' Pony with everyone!

A Strange Night at the Pint n’ Pony: A “Short” Adventure is a 16-page stand-alone RPG adventure built for DCC RPG—but usable in any system. This is an introductory-level adventure.

The little folk meet each night at a pub secluded from the troubles of big people. Here, after a long day of work, hobbits, dwarves, gnomes, and the occasional wild elf and short humans share simple tales and sip tasty ales. Tonight is nothing new—or is it? Sinister forces have been awakened and emerge during happy hour (hic) at the Pint n’ Pony. Now, in defense of their precious last keg, new adventurers will be born out of the horror of a very strange night! A tale (hic) only DCC RPG can weave.

Now enjoy the sneak peek below! You can find the full module available in our online store!
With the release of issue 5 of Tales From the Magician’s Skull right around the corner, the Skull himself has deemed it mete and fitting that samples of its wondrous tales be made available to the hungry eyes and greedy brains of the public.

To kick things off we’ve got a preview of another Dhulyn and Parno story from Violette Malan, with an appropriately creepy illustration from Randy Broecker to set the stage.

Remember mortals, not all that lies interred lies quiet!
We’ve got product! Horror product and dice product, making it a perfect week for the Halloween crowd out there—which is pretty much everyone, right?

To start off with, we’ve got a brand new set of dice in our online store! The Venusian Fae dice are a brand new set of dice that is separate from the DCC Dice Kickstarter that we just announced. These dice are exclusive to our online store!

We’ve also got a brand-new horror-themed adventure ready to go, joining the rest of our DCC Horror lineup! Plus, two of the older, hard-to-get modules are back in a new printing under the DCC Horror banner.

Let’s take a look!
New cosmic nebula dice featuring a new monster!

From the depths of the cosmos comes a new set of dice that herald the arrival of a tiny visitor. The dice are cosmic nebula in color, and are named for the monster that is detailed inside.

This set includes an insert with new Doug Kovacs art and a new monster by Harley Stroh, inspired by the dice themselves.

Contained within this tube you will find these dice, ready for rolling on your table:

D3, D4, D5, D6, D7, D8, D10, D%10, D12, D14, D16, D20, D24, and D30.

These dice are a limited edition exclusive to our online store, and once they are gone, they are GONE! So don’t delay getting your set today!
A level 3 DCC Horror adventure.

A group of adventurers finds the perfect place to retire: a sweet little inn in a quiet town. But is it what it seems? Lurking beneath the surface of this idyllic spot is a secret so evil as to defy mortal comprehension. This is the Web of All-Torment, the source of all the world’s nightmares, and escaping may be the greatest challenge the adventurers have ever faced.

This shadow realm is the domain of horrors whose seemings can never be trusted, and even the imprisoned have become instruments of torture.
A level 2 horror adventure for DCC RPG.

The town of Portnelle is living in a state of fear. Several citizens have been abducted – some never to been seen again, while others are found as corpses, often with missing limbs. When a senile town priest warns that he’s received a vision that the geriatric recluse Dr. Lotrin Von Geisterblut is behind the abductions, there are many who do not believe the accusations. However, when the town is set upon by wicked fiends foretold in his vision, attitudes quickly change, and swords are raised. Perhaps it’s time to storm the castle after all.

This level 2 adventure is a story of Gothic horror which pits the characters against monstrosities created by an ancient madman. Will the characters be able to survive the macabre horrors found in the laboratories that spawned The Corpse that Love Built?
A level 0 horror adventure for DCC RPG.

The village of Portnelle is once again bright and festive. After years of feuding, the town’s most prominent and influential families will finally be making peace as the youngest generations are joined in marriage. However, when an evil born of dark secrets refuses to stay buried, blood will flow like wine at the reception.

This wedding is one your fellow villagers will talk about for generations!

This module is now presented in our standard 8.5″ x 11″ format.
It's down to a mater of HOURS. By the time you wake up tomorrow, the Judges Guild Deluxe Collector's Edition Vol. 2 Kickstarter will be over.

We've hit all but one of the stretch goals, and we believe we can reach that one, too. It's all up to you.

Here's the low-down on the campaign from the Kickstarter:

This Kickstarter funds the scanning, digital restoration, and print publication of an oversized deluxe collector's edition of classic Judges Guild RPG adventures and zines. This second volume in the series focuses on materials created, illustrated, and produced by Jennell Jaquays: the Dungeoneer zines; Dark Tower; The Caverns of Thracia; The Book of Treasure Maps; and more. Through this Kickstarter, this volume is offered at a price that is $25 lower than the general distribution price, with an option for an exclusive slipcase available only through this Kickstarter. In lieu of royalties, Judges Guild has agreed to donate a portion of proceeds from the Kickstarter to benefit two special charities.

This is it! No more waiting! Support the Judges Guild Deluxe Collector's Edition Vol. 2 Kickstarter right now!
IMPACT MINIATURES & GOODMAN GAMES team up to bring you 9 new colors for your DCC dice and 5 new DCC monsters!

Let’s say that again: NINE new colors and five new monsters, all designed for your DCC RPG game!

Everybody loves dice, and we feel that some of the best dice you can get your hands on are the ones Impact Miniatures produces for Dungeon Crawl ClassicsAnd now you can get in on brand new sets of dice at the latest Kickstarter for DCC RPG Dice.

The last time new DCC color sets were released was July 2018 and we think the incredible players of this great game deserve new colors after an over 2 year wait! So Impact and Goodman Games have teamed up to work together to fix this. Together we are releasing 9 new special effect color sets.

The new special color effect dice are the Snow Cone sets. These new sets sparkle like ice crystals in the sun and have the bold colors of snow cone treats.

Hey, you mentioned monsters! What about those?

Okay, we can help there, too. Here are the five new pieces of sleeve artwork, each with a monster that is detailed on the back of the sleeve. Here’s what you can get: Maned Wyrm (included with Marbled Blue); Beaked Unicorn (included with Marbled Black); Hellcat (included with Sangria Snow Cone); Skeleton-Saint (included with Marbled White); Three-Legged Gowl (included with Marbled Green).

So head on over to the new Kickstarter and show some love! These are dice. You know you want new dice for Christmas…
Down around the corner, half a mile from here, you can see them long trains run, and you watch them disappear. However, in this case you can make sure the train stops by your place by taking part in the Orcs! A High Octane Adventure Kickstarter!

Orcs! is a third-party DCC Kickstarter intended to be used with the Hubris campaign setting, but is perfectly suitable for running in any DCC RPG campaign.

Here's a description straight from the Kickstarter:

ORCS! A High Octane Adventure! is inspired by Mad Max: Fury Road, Snowpiercer and the Gears of War video games. The adventure is designed for four to six 3rd-level characters and set in the Hubris: A World of Visceral Adventure campaign setting but can be used with DCC settings or OSR campaigns with some tweaking of the locations and names. Set on a train, this adventure is fast paced with deadly combat encounters with orcs and their alchemically altered abominations.

There is no set map. Instead, the Judge draws a desired number of playing cards and consults the card description to determine the order of the train cars and events and create their map.

This adventure also contains the new Hubris class: The Gunslinger.

Sounds like a cool concept for creating a dynamic adventure! And they've got some fantastic stretch goals that you can help to make a reality.

So head on over to Kickstarter and help them make this adventure happen!
Danger Stranger is back with their new episode this week, and it offers some DCC RPG goodness in a classic style. Here’s the plan…

There are several games at Bride of Cyclops Con that utilize the Xcrawl Classics rules, so if you are going to be a part of those games, we strongly suggest you download these rules and peruse them before your game starts.

And even if you aren’t playing in an Xcrawl Classics game at Bride of Cyclops Con this is a great chance to download them and give them a look. In fact, while you are going through them, if you spot any errors that we might have overlooked, be sure to hit up our Stomp The Typo tool and let us know about any mistakes!

If you’d like to get in on the fun right away, we’ve already got a selection of Xcrawl adventures that were created for the DCC RPG rules set! Check them out in our online store!

The response to our Sticker Design Contest was amazing. We were stunned by the quantity and the quality of the submissions received for the contest.

In fact, it’s really hard to come up with a “top three” so we may wind up letting fans vote across even more entries. No matter the number, you—the fans—will decide the ultimate winner. We plan for voting to run across Bride of Cyclops Con so watch for more info on voting as we get closer in!

Thank you again for all the great submissions! Look for voting to open up at Bride of Cyclops Con!

The world of adventure fantasy and sword & sorcery has grown a little dimmer with the passing of Charles Saunders in May of this year at the age of 74. Though best known among genre fans for his Imaro saga, Saunders worked diligently as a journalist and historian, with much of his focus over the years devoted to the Black Canadian experience, most especially as it pertains to Nova Scotia, which Saunders called home for 35 years.

But it is the Imaro tales that have brought Saunders international acclaim, a growing fanbase, and recognition as the Father of Sword & Soul – a burgeoning sub-genre of African inspired fantastic fiction...
by Bill Ward
The bones of sword & sorcery lie close to the skin, and one sure blade-stroke is enough to lay them bare for all to see. There is plot-driven pulp action there, at the core, but supporting that is a foundation of swashbuckling historical adventure, and expectations of encounters of the picaresque and the exotic kind. To be sure we can also see the unsentimentality of the hardboiled, the individualism of the American experience, and a surprising dose of literary realism for a genre concerned with fantastic monsters, haunted crypts, and vampiric blades. It is of course from these supernatural elements that the horror of sword & sorcery emerges – indeed it’s where the ‘sorcery’ part of the name derives, and it is at least as important an ingredient in these tales as self-reliant protagonists, mysterious lost cities, and lands both far and strange.

It is out of the tradition of weird fiction that this strain of horror in sword & sorcery – and cosmic horror in particular – has its origins, and the two primary originators of the sub-genre were both practitioners of such tales. Clark Ashton Smith, whose darkly poetic and evocative stories read like the negative reflection of Dunsanian fantasy, was one of the first to really infuse secondary world tales with a strong dose of the horrific and the macabre. But it was Robert E. Howard who deserves full credit as the creator of sword & sorcery proper, combining all of those elements that would come to be ubiquitous into something greater than the some of its parts...
