And just like that ....

Trail Conditions

Feb > March | 2025

... We went from epic snow, the best in the Province, even if it was -25c just two weeks ago, to rapid melt and luge like classic tracks. Such are the challenges of a winter sport in this changing world. Hopefully we will get another cool spell and some fresh snow to extend the 2024-2025 Winter season. But in the meantime, rentals and lessons have been paused. Skate skiers can take their chances and venture out although we cannot groom unless overnight temperatures dip below zero. Otherwise it would expedite deterioration of the snow we do have left. Please check the Trail Report to keep an eye on conditions and absolutely no walking on ski trails until we have officially closed the 2024-2025 Winter season. Members and Day Pass holders are welcome to snowshoe or hike (cleats recommended) on our Multi Use trails anytime.

Jack Rabbits Wrapping Up

Feb > March | 2025

Parents - check your email for information on ski rental return dates and information on kid options for the March 9 loppet. It has been a mixed season for our hardy little Jackrabbits and kudos to the program leaders and volunteers for their creativity on and off the snow.

Alberta Cup Feedback

Winter | 2024-2025

A massive Thank You to all the local volunteers who stepped up to help Wapiti Nordic host this Provincial event on January 25-26, 2025. A special kudos to the race committee and our groomers who - despite the snow being like concrete at the start of the week - worked magic to have the best snow in the Province! Athletes, coaches and spectators raved about our grooming, facility and first class hospitality. And finally, thanks to Maj Photography for capturing so many special moments!

This & That Other News

February | 2025

Calforex Cancelled: Questionable weather and low registrations led to the demise of this event on the Feb 8-9 weekend. Thanks to those who offered to volunteer - we appreciate your willingness to help.

Canadian Birkebeiner: Congrats to the dozen or so Grande Prairie athletes (recreational and competitive) who participated in this iconic event. Way to represent!

Valentines Night Social: We had several couples come out on Friday, Feb 14th and brave the -23c cold to XC ski and snowshoe by headlamp. What's more romantic than sharing a snotsicle kiss?!?

Family Day Social: Was another casualty on Feb 17th due to the cold and brutal -30c windchill. So the firepit and hot chocolate were put on hold - hopefully we can find another date before the end of the season.

Race Teams/Tough Season: Both the Cross Country and Biathlon race teams have had to endure event cancellations and sporadic competitive opportunities this Winter although a contingent of Biathlon athletes made it to Hinton on the Feb 22-23 weekend for the Calforex Cup event and performed well! Way to go!

Spring General Meeting: Your volunteer Board is working to nail down a date in late April or early May - stay tuned! The meeting will include Board elections, mid year financial summary, updates on the multi use trail Master Plan, progress on a new logo and more. We appreciate everyone who turns out and always love to see new faces too!
