Dear Staten Island Academy Community,

Well… the blizzard of a lifetime has officially lived up to its billing. I think this is Canada’s way of getting back at us for beating them in both the Men’s and Women’s Gold Medal hockey games!!

After consulting an unsuccessful walk up to campus, we have made the decision to close school tomorrow. Safety comes first!

That said, learning doesn’t have to freeze just because it is frozen outside. 

Tomorrow will be an asynchronous learning day, meaning Middle and Upper School students should check their emails and CANVAS for posted assignments and activities. Lower School parents, please check your emails. These assignments are designed to be flexible, manageable and completed at a reasonable pace. All work is preferably done while wearing your SIA PJs.

Communication will be shared throughout today for tomorrow. Please note, no live classes will be held but teachers will be available via email or on MS Teams during designated times. Please know we are aiming for meaningful learning, not screen‑marathon endurance, dedicate some reading time. I started reading Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as winter continues to remind us of who’s really in charge.
