Dobar večer! Good Evening!

I thought that perhaps you'd like to know more about the Eurovision Song Contest, which is a huge event for all Europeans, happening this week in Malmo, Sweden. What does this have to do with CROATIA, you ask? Well, Croatia's entry has made it to the FINALS, which are going to be held on Saturday. If you'd like to watch the concert live, just download the Eurovision app on your phone.

Not only are Croatians excited about the fact that their participant has made it to the FINALS, but they have been so taken with the song that many cities, towns, villages, and groups are coming up with their own versions.........and they are dancing and singing all over Croatia. It's amazingly WONDERFUL to me! This song has taken Croatia by storm! And we are all hoping for Croatia to win! (Croatia so far has never won first place at this event.)

This song, "Rim Tim Tagi Dim" is about leaving one's village for a "better" life elsewhere----and the lyrics are in English. The singer calls himself "Baby Lasagna" and I'm not sure why. (Marko Purišić, known professionally as "Baby Lasagna," is a Croatian singer-songwriter and music producer. He is representing Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "Rim Tim Tagi Dim".)

I am quite taken by the song myself because it has a very catchy rhythm and because I think it is such a perfect fusion of FOLKLORE and contemporary rap/rock/style. In fact, there are nods and references to folk costumes and to village life throughout. (And I LOVE all the many references to DANCE!)

Lyrics
Ay, I'm a big boy now
I'm ready to leave, ciao, mamma, ciao
Ay, I'm a big boy now

I'm going away and I sold my cow
Before I leave, I must confess
I need a round of decompress
One more time for all the good times

Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tim
Gonna miss you all, but mostly the cat
Gonna miss my hay, gonna miss my bed
But most of all, I'ma miss the dance

So come on y'all, let us prance
Now don't call, don't write
I'm leavin' with the first light
Don't cry, but dance

Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tim
There's no going back (whoa)
My presence fades to black (whoa)
Yeah, there's no going back (whoa)
My anxiety attacks (whoa)
Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tagi-digi-dim

I hope I find peace in the noise
Wanna become one of them city boys
They're all so pretty and so advanced
Maybe they also know our dance

Bye mom, bye dad
Meow, cat, please, meow back
Don't cry, just dance
Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tim

There's no going back (whoa)
My presence fades to black (whoa)
Yeah, there's no going back (whoa)
My anxiety attacks (whoa)
Rim-tim-tagi-digi-dim-tim-tagi-digi-dim
There's no going back (whoa)
My presence fades to black (whoa)
There's no going back (whoa)
Anxiety attacks (whoa)
Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tagi-digi-dim
There's no going back (whoa)
My presence fades to black (whoa)
Yeah, there's no going back (whoa)
My anxiety attacks (whoa)
Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tagi-digi-dim
