The year 2020 will go down in history as one of the most challenging! For most of this year, we have struggled together to battle a novel coronavirus. The very thing which protects us-social distance-is the hardest in many ways to endure. We want you to know CVCOA staff, board, volunteers, and our community partners are here for you now and as we enter a new year. Most of all, we are in awe of the sacrifices older Vermonters have made and continue to make to stay safe and healthy in the face of COVID-19. We truly hope 2021 will bring a New Year full of hope and healing to us all. Thank you for all you do. We hope to see you again soon!

After Cancellation, Jeffersonville RSVP Bone Builders Class Gets Creative!

The Jeffersonville Bone Builders class had been meeting in person but decided to cancel until further notice due to the rise in COVID cases. The class Leader/Instructor, Melody Tobin asked folks to get creative instead. "In lieu of our semiweekly exercise together," she wrote to the class, "I am putting out a little challenge. Would you share a short story, poem, prose or what have you, which we in turn could share with our bone builder group?" Here is the poem submitted by Melody:

I met an old lady, I had not met before

We were standing in line at the grocery store

We got to talking about Thanksgiving this year

RSVP, a sponsored agency of Central Vermont Council on Aging, recruits, screens and trains volunteers 55+ to serve older Central Vermonters. RSVP volunteers lead wellness classes, deliver Meals on Wheels and many other services to local not-for-profit organizations.

3SquaresVT Issues

Additional Benefits

to Some Households

The Vermont Legislature authorized the use of Coronavirus Relief Funds for a one-time special payment to 3SquaresVT households who are living in deepest poverty, including older Vermonters. These are households who were already receiving maximum 3SquaresVT benefit amounts and were not able to receive any additional benefits from the emergency allotment authorized by the federal government or who received only a nominal amount.

Which households are receiving this one-time special benefit?

-Households already at maximum benefit amount for their household size for the September 2020 benefit month (received $0 in maximum emergency allotment for September), and

-Households who received $50 or less in maximum emergency allotment benefits for the September benefit month.

These one-time special payment checks were being issued on December 15 by the Vermont Treasurer’s office. Click Here for more information

U-32 Students Make Care Cards for

Older Vermonters for Holidays

Looking to bring joy to the holiday season, 8th grade students from U-32 created cards for older adults in Central Vermont. The holiday cards will be distributed in late December through Meals on Wheels volunteers serving with the Twin Valley Senior Center. Thank you, U-32 and Meals on Wheels volunteers for this beautiful gift to older Vermonters this holiday season!
