Bring your like-minded friends and family members to the Prospective Parent Reception and we'll do the rest!

Prospective Parent Receptions are a great opportunity to invite your friends and family members to learn more about becoming a part of the ELCA family. Administrators from every area of our school are in attendance and are ready to share about all aspects of the ELCA experience.

Thanks to each of our families who have chosen to participate with this year’s ELCA Fund. Over 48% of our parents have made a donation this year, joining 100% of our Ministry Team and 99% of our faculty/staff with this support. Total amount given/pledged thus far totals $195,627. It is extremely critical that we continue to show a strong parent giving percentage in order to not only provide the resources the school needs to benefit your children, but also to show outside foundations when we request their support that the people that know us best are in support of our mission. We have actually been awarded a grant from a metro Atlanta foundation and one of the primary factors was our increasing parent giving participation to our ELCA Fund over the past few years. We have increased this percentage from 8% just 5 short years ago, to 52% last year, and we need your support to move past last year’s total. If you have not given to this year’s ELCA Fund please do so at  www.elcaonline.org/give  or by completing this form and returning it to ELCA. Please contact Al Hosford at (678) 818-1031 with any questions.
The new website gives us some exciting new options for communicating with our families. Two such options are the ability to send announcements via text and voicemail. Any texts or voicemails from ELCA will originate from the number
770 282-4957 .

We advise you to add this number to your contacts so that you will recognize messages coming from the ELCA communications office.
According to a recent survey, our families overwhelmingly indicate that they wish to be well informed of all the great things happening at ELCA. We will continue to send timely announcements and reminders each week via email , however, our eNewsletter will now be sent out on a bi-monthly basis (every other month.)
Spring Fling
will be on Friday, April 13th!

Students in all grades are invited to submit an entry for the Spring Fling T-shirt Design Contest. Submit your design by Friday, March 2 to Mrs. Vicki at the receptionist's desk.

The winner will receive free admission to Spring Fling, free t-shirt and 2 homework passes.
Health Update
from the ELCA Nurse
We have been seeing cases of influenza, Strep, stomach virus, and colds/allergies.  However, please be assured that   we are not seeing an extreme amount of cases ! We have less than 5% absenteeism throughout the whole school. Students that are exhibiting signs here during the school day are being sent home.

Please continue to keep students at home who are exhibiting signs and symptoms. It is not too late to have a flu shot. If you suspect your child has the flu, CHOA advises visiting your pediatrician prior to visiting the emergency department or urgent care, unless you feel the need is immediate.

Take a look at this information sheet from CHOA with common signs of the flu and when to visit the doctor.

Have a great day and stay healthy!

Our Own Poetry Author
ELCA Director of Student Support Services, Anna King Ivey  will present her beautiful published collection, into the leftover blue , on Saturday, February 10th at 1:00PM at Story on the Square. Story on the Square has a a temporary store site at  13 Keys Ferry Street  at the old Ward Drug Store on the south side of the square until their new site opens.  Come listen to her read from her book and purchase a signed copy. It’s a moving work about the influenza epidemic of 1918, and could not be more timely.
Middle School Moments
Eighth grade physical science students took a field trip to the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robins Air Force Base. This trip connected with their current unit of study on force and motion. Students especially enjoyed creating a flight plan and carrying out their plans in the flight simulators.
ELCA Seniors Visit Disney World
for their Senior Trip
ELCA seniors took their annual trip to Walt Disney World at the end of the Christmas break. They returned to school on Tuesday, January 16 but promptly had the rest of the week off due to severe weather! That's one day of school between December 22 and January 22. Where is the happiest place on earth, again?
HOSA Special Guest
A huge thank you to Ms. Kaylen Anthony, RN, who spoke to the HOSA organization at the beginning of January. She shared some valuable information about the many careers in nursing, as well as her experience in the NICU. We appreciate her time and willingness to share with the students at ELCA!
The Science Machine
Elementary kids love it when The Science Machine comes to ELCA!
Mr. Green, an ELCA parent, makes science come alive! Collier White had a chance to get onstage to 'assist' ...you never know what might happen!
Friday, March 2 is our next
Special Chapel for Elementary and Preschool
On March 7, 2018, Brien Engel with Glass Harp Music will be performing at chapel for both preschool (8:10 A.M.) and elementary (2:00 P.M.) students. Mr. Engel is one of very few people reviving and promoting the enchanting art of glass music. His instrument is a glass harp, consisting of 50 glasses of different sizes, which he plays by carefully rubbing the rims with his moistened fingers. Brien has made notable strides in bringing unusual and challenging styles of playing to this instrument, particularly as a jazz musician.
Amazing Shot Award

Matthew Johnson came up BIG for his kickball team in December! Late in the game, Matthew kicked the ball directly into the basketball goal! We all know that means HOMERUN! Besides being an amazing shot, it was a game winner!

Congratulations, Matthew!

Hula Hoop Record Broken

On Tuesday, Dec. 19th, seventh grader, Rosie Owens broke the ELCA record for continuous hula hooping with a time of 1:18:46! That's a lot of hula-ing! Rosie shattered the previous record by 20 minutes!

Way to go, Rosie!

"100" is a BIG number...and a BIG DAY!
The 100th day of school is always a fun day for elementary students who celebrate in a NUMBER of ways. See what I did there?

Kindergartners traditionally dress up as 100-year-olds and Mr. Tucker was able to catch up with Jahmai Porter, Jace Ghee, Lillie Clanton and Hailey Bellinger for a photo. Older elementary students will typically decorate shirts to celebrate the number "100" as displayed by 1st graders, Grayson Heidle and Cambrey Harris.
Five FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) members attended the Region 12 FBLA Conference at Jackson County High School on January 22. Members attending were Ben Blackburn, Kelli Crews, Sean Marsh, Andrea Sanchez, and Dhruti Trivedi. Members were able to attend leadership workshops, participate in competitive events, play Bingo to support the March of Dimes, and network with other FBLA members across the region. Congratulations to Kelli Crews and Dhruti Trivedi. Kelli placed 3rd in Business Communications and Dhruti placed 7th in Business Communications.
A Beautiful Dreamer
ELCA junior, Kelli Crews was selected from thousands of applicants to participate in the 2018 Disney Dreamers Academy. One-hundred high school students were selected to participate in this immersive and transformational four-day program, March 8-11, at Walt Disney World Resort. To apply, students answer a series of essay questions about their personal stories and dreams for the future. Kelli will participate in hands-on, immersive career-oriented workshops, ranging from animation to zoology. Each student is given important tools such as effective communication techniques, leadership skills and networking strategies.
Congratulations, Kelli!

All-State Chorus
On January 22, 2018, the second audition was held for All State Chorus. Seventh grader, Zoe Purcaro sailed through it with a score of 100 percent.  Chorus Director, Tracey Fuller says, "With the snow days, we weren’t able to work at all this week and she was still able to make it with a perfect score.  She is the first ELCA middle school student to make All State Chorus.  The first audition was in November and after making that cut, she was given five pieces to learn, including a song in German.  We began working towards the first audition in August, and started right after Christmas working towards this audition today."

The All-State Chorus event will be February 15th - 17th in Athens, Georgia.  This is quite an honor and we are so proud of her!
More than 20 ELCA thespians will attend the Georgia Thespian Conference this week...February 8-10.
