So Much News To Share...
Hello Theatre Lovers!

We have so much news to share with you and I truly hope you will read this letter and then forward it to your friends!

Special thanks to everyone who came to the LOVE Cabaret! What a party! The show was packed with an incredible array of talent. We received tremendous positive feedback. The artists all came in that day, rehearsed ONCE, and delivered an amazing show that night. Then PRIME SEVEN NINE put on fierce Red Carpet Reception, and fun was had by all!
We have three amazing shows in before our summer season. If you don’t have tickets yet please call the office right away.  We start in March with Girls Nite Out comedy troupe. This is going to be a super fun night and we are also offering an upgraded ticket which includes a pre-show party to really celebrate INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY!

In April we have an absolutely beautiful story we are presenting at The Simcoe Street Theatre called ONE STEP AT A TIME. It is a very personal story about a couple who have a child born with spina bifida, and the incredible accomplishments they make! Andrew Prashad created and stars in this show, and he is a super star!

Following that we have Dan Needles show at the end of April, but I have to tell you that this show is almost SOLD OUT. It might have a couple of seats left…..so call quickly to hear this incredible talent who we all know and love! I am also really looking forward to his accompanist, Ian Bell, who will be performing with Dan that night!

Did you come to see TALES OF AN URBAN INDIAN, which we presented on a bus? Well that show has continued to tour and is now heading out internationally. We breathed life into it and helped it “get its wheels” so to speak. Be proud!
I am super excited about our
upcoming March Break Camp.
Do you know any children who might like to come?
We have four sponsors of this program: The Town of Collingwood, The Collingwood Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay, Gaslight Productions, and Mortgage Wellness Collingwood. And we thank them for their generous support. This support enables us to offer something I am very proud of…..FREE camp to any child who has financial barriers.
It is a totally accessible camp, and open to everyone. Our theme for our 2019 MARCH BREAK DRAMA CAMP is “Schoolyard Shakespeare”. Instructor drew Murdoch, through improvisation, story building, movement and basic scene study, will help campers to gain confidence in themselves and learn more about their own unique capabilities, all while discovering the ageless value of Shakespeare and how the plays can relate to modern times. For ages 7-11 years. No experience necessary. Our goal is to introduce campers to the wonderful world of theatre, to make friendships, to build self-confidence……and to have fun!
A Note From drew

“Schoolyard Shakespeare is all about how Shakespeare can still be relevant today. Find out answers to some of life’s most important questions like, who the heck is that Romeo guy and why does he talk like that? Or, I heard that there were fairies in Shakespeare does that mean that Tinkerbell is a Shakespearian character? Camp will include furiously fun games galore, building beautiful and stupendous stagecraft and artistically anchored alliteration!”

THE UN-GALA!
If you have been to our gala in the past OR if you never go to our galas, PLEASE MARK JUNE 8 TH ON YOUR CALENDAR and reserve your tickets for THE UN-GALA! We will be featuring LAYNE the Auctionista (as seen on City TV’s Breakfast Television), and the amazing music of PRETZEL LOGIC! We are going to try to make this event the most UN-GALA event ever! Come out to the UN-GALA (and support YOUR Theatre Collingwood) and have an UN-BELIEVABLE time while being UN-DRESSED! Wait! What do I mean by that? CLOTHING STYLE IS OPTIONAL!
This year I think we will have one of the best summer theatre festivals EVER! If you have not bought a subscription yet PLEASE do yourself a favour and get one! It’s a great deal! Get your friends together and make it a monthly date!

We have a world premier coming to us right after it opens in Orangeville, by the incredible Kristen Da Silva. "Kristen Da Silva is one of the brightest new comedic playwrights in all of Canada."  Norm Foster

If you were lucky enough to see Sugar Road, she wrote that. She is also now the resident playwright at Theatre Orangeville. We will start our summer season off with her play “Where You Are” and typical of her work, it is a very Canadian play with lots of great comedy.

In June we have the incomparable Lousie Pitre coming in. She truly is one of Canada’s most iconic musical theatre performers and she will be coming to sing for us and tell us her stories. I still can’t believe we were able to get her here!

In Summer of ’69 we will celebrate all things from that wonderful year (50 years ago), including music, tv and the pop culture of the times. David Rogers has conceived this musical revue and he produces nothing but great work. His theatre in Petrolia is sold out all the time and filled with bus tours. Why? Because they know they can trust his work to be GREAT!

Beside Myself is Norm Foster’s most recent play and is also a musical! It is coming to us from his festival in St. Catharines. I loved the concept of having the opportunity to step back in time to when you first fell in love. We have all had that feeling when we play a song and we remember what we were doing when it first came out. This play is relatable and lovely.

And then in September we have Leisa Way back to celebrate Opry Gold! Leisa is so well loved and such a wonderful person, plus she has a band packed with performers that are each worth the price of admission just to hear them! Join us for some toe-tappin, knee-slappin fun!

Following the summer season we have a great show called Soul Sisters coming in September. It tells the story of the birth of Soul Music and R&B for women. Starting with Big Mama Thornton, Etta James, Soul Queen Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight, through the 60’s and 70’s with Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross and Tammi Terrell. The show also includes the music of Tina Turner, Chaka Kahn, and Janet Jackson.

Watch for more shows and events to be programmed before the end of our Theatre Collingwood year.

I would like to extend a big THANK YOU to Blue Mountain Resort and Chartwell Georgian Traditions, who have agreed to come on board again as our Season Sponsors ($10,000 each)! I would also like to thank our Production Sponsors ($5,000 each): Noble Insurance, Royal LePage Trinity, Bauke Stahr & McNabb, Tim Hortons Collingwood, & TD Bank. We have many different sponsorship and membership levels. Perhaps you may want more information on how you or your business can support Theatre Collingwood? Just call 705-445-2200.
We have more exciting news!
Our very own Katherine Huycke has been chosen to receive a SOVEREIGN’S MEDAL FOR VOLUNTEERS. Congratulations Katherine! The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers recognizes exceptional volunteer achievements from across the country and abroad, celebrating a wide range of voluntary contributions. As an official honour created by the Crown, the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers is part of the Canadian Honours System. The program has incorporated and replaced the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, which was created in 1995, by then-Governor General the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc.
I look forward to seeing you at the theatre! Thank you so much for your support and your love of great entertainment!
