PetsWALK is almost here! Our favorite event of the year is less than one week away and there's still time to register!
Presented by Animal Emergency & Specialty Center, this June 6 event is the most fun family friendly event of the summer and even your four-legged friends are invited!
There's a 5K course for the serious competitors and a one-mile option for those who like a more leisurely jaunt, but both take you through the beauty of Poulsbo and to a downtown waterfront for a bustling festival of vendor booths, food trucks, live music, games and contests, and more adorable animals than you can possibly imagine!
Visit the PetsWALK website or click the button below to register and to learn how you can help us meet our $50,000 fundraising goal in the run-up to race day (and win prizes!). Your generous support provides comfort and expert medical care to thousands of owned and shelter animals in Kitsap County so that each pet can be strong, healthy, and adopted into loving homes!
And don't forget to purchase your PetsWALK tee-shirt with designs by acclaimed illustrator Hubery Buel!

Kitsap Humane Society isn't just about dogs and cats, you know. We take in all kinds of animals, from hamsters and ferrets to snakes and tortoises to birds of all shapes and sizes (including one very angry emu).
Last week, Kitsap Humane Society assisted an overwhelmed community member by taking in 60 adorable and friendly female rats. And next Tuesday, the males come in - most likely several dozen of them (at least). Just like our veterinarians did for the females, they'll assess the health of each one, confirm their gender, and get them ready for adoption.
If you're wondering, all of the females have already found new homes. Rats are extremely intelligent and make great pets. They're able to figure out complex puzzles, can perform tricks and play simple video games, and can even be taught to use a litter box. And they're pretty cute.
If you’d like to adopt or foster some of our incoming friends, we expect them to be available for adoption beginning Wednesday, June 3. If you can’t, but would still like to help, we’re in dire need of donations of food, cages, tunnels, and other rat-related supplies. Thank you for your support!

The outpouring of support from our community never ceases to amaze. Every day, volunteers show up to help us walk dogs, socialize cats, do laundry and dishes, and clean every square inch of the campus. Fosters take in our most vulnerable animals, help them grow up, and nurse them to health. Donors drop off food, toys, auction items, and of course, checks. And every once in a while, someone will even donate a car for us to sell.
But it’s not often that a supporter will gift us a whole plot of land. And it happened earlier this year!
An anonymous and incredibly generous donor has given Kitsap Humane Society a seven-acre property in Northeast Sequim and we’re in process of selling it to support our mission.
NKA Vista Del Mar is an amazing water-view parcel of land, with cleared building areas, an installed well, an easy-to-access private road, and no restrictions, making it the perfect place for someone looking to build their dream home – or have enough room for as many big dogs as they could possibly wish (hint, hint).
Take a look at the video below and imagine the peace and serenity living in Sequim would bring you. For more info call or text Ryan Herring, Fathom Realty at 360-797-3932.

| | Our June Puppuccino Pal: Kim Coletti, Realtor | | |
Elmer the Bassett Hound is such a great dog. He's low to the ground, always in danger of stepping on his own giant ears, and loves a refreshing cup of whipped cream in the afternoon. That's why his favorite realtor is Kim Coletti with Bainbridge Homes Real Estate - our Puppuccino Pal for June!
Kim has called Bainbridge Island home for over 14 years. As a local real estate broker, she works with buyers and sellers across Bainbridge Island and the greater Kitsap County area - and her approach is pretty simple: "I'm not here to sell you anything. I'm here to help you make smart, informed decisions about one of the biggest moves of your life." She's also a big fan of Kitsap Humane Society.
| | |
"We've welcomed a few KHS dogs into our family over the years and seen firsthand the care they put into their animals. The Puppuccino Pals program is exactly the kind of thing that makes you smile: shelter pups getting a little treat and a lot of love while they wait for their people to find them."
On behalf of Elmer and all our furry friends, thank you Kim! And to watch Elmer absolutely destroy a pup cup, click on the video below.

Each spring and summer during “kitten season,” KHS experiences a dramatic surge in kittens and stray cats brought in by concerned residents. These seasonal influxes quickly strain shelter capacity, staffing, and financial resources. Thanks to our Trap-Neuter-Release programs, foster care, and adoption programs, KHS is able to manage this influx of kitties and help reduce population growth and improve outcomes for both animals and the broader community.
| | |
Sustaining these efforts has become increasingly difficult, but thanks to organizations like the Bainbridge Community Foundation (BCF) - which raises funds for critical needs identified by local nonprofits like KHS - we're able to continue providing a vital safety net for our community. BCF funds help subsidize Foster staff salaries and supplies and in the coming year, we estimate that more than 600 animals will benefit. BCF funding also provides TNR surgeries for more than 200 cats cared for and brought to KHS.
By giving through Bainbridge Gives, you not only can give to causes you’re passionate about, but you have the community stamp of approval that your money is going to the right place. We hope you’ll consider giving through Bainbridge Gives by June 12! Every dollar you donate will go directly toward supporting us and the important services we provide.
Thank you, Bainbridge Community Foundation!

We Love Norman!
This is Norman. Out of the 40 dogs rescued from a Poulsbo hoarding situation on March 17 (57 animals total), he's the only one who has yet to find a home. And boy howdy, would he like one.
He's a big softy who loves the simple things in life: tasty treats, sniffing all the sniffs, belly scritches, and dramatically leaning his entire body weight into you for pets. He's looking for a relaxed environment where he can build confidence and soak up attention - and rewards your patience with him with loyal companionship and lots of snuggles.
If you'd like to meet Norman, come up and visit with this happy guy!

Tom Baker, the Biscuit Maker!
This is a guy who just wants a little love. Tom adores being brushed, but will let you know when spa time is over. He like soft conversations, cozy corners, and affection on his schedule. He thrives in calm spaces and appreciates people who can read his cues.
He needs a home that's calm, patient, and low-key and someone who will tell him how handsome he is. Because he is and he knows it.
Come up and meet this guy and show him the affection he surely deserves!

May was an amazing month at Kitsap Humane Society, when we saw nearly all of the 57 animals from our St. Patrick's Day rescue adopted into loving homes. Thank you to everyone who adopted, fostered, volunteered, or supported our efforts... we couldn't do it without you!
In May, 222 animals were adopted, including 57 cats, 48 dogs, 19 puppies, 61 kittens, 31 rats, two reptiles, a budgie, a chicken, and a guinea pig. Oh... and Wilhelmina the pig (now Winnie), who went home with two of the nicest people we've ever met.
Now we’d love to hear from you! How is your KHS alum thriving at home? Share your pet’s Happy Tails with us for a chance to be featured on our social media and help us celebrate the joy your animal brings every day.
| | Learn to Feed Bottle Babies! | | |
Kitten season is upon us, and Kitsap Humane Society is gearing up for a tidal wave of cuteness. With it, however, comes a lot of care and the need for volunteers who know their way around bottle feeding.
Fortunately, our friends at Poulsbo Parks and Recreation are helping us out. Join us in the Recreation Center Kitchen on June 20 and you'll learn the essentials of bottle-feeding kittens and puppies, how to make an emergency supply kit, and what to do if you find an orphaned animal in your community.
It's free! It's fun! It's adorable!
