HOCO 2025: A New Spin

Mark your calendars for October 11-12 as we reimagine Homecoming at Martin Luther College. This year’s celebration keeps the best of what we’ve loved—connection, fun, and Knight spirit—while adding new events that welcome even more alumni to campus.

What’s New?

Join us for an alumni breakfast from 9:00 to 10:00 am. After the Sprinter Fun Run, join us in the caf and replace all those lost calories. After eating, kids can play Bingo in the cafeteria’s meeting room, giving parents a chance to talk with new and old friends. The cost for breakfast is $6. Children aged 4-6 are $3, and those under 4 are free.

A special alumni chapel will follow breakfast at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the Christ.

From 10:30 am to noon, you’ll have choices. All are free!

  • The library will have stations for parents with younger children. Whether listening to a storybook, creating art, or imagining a new puppet show, you and your child(ren) will have fun with other alumni and their kids.
  • Adults will have choices too. From squid dissection to learning about Islam to using the high ropes course, you’ll have plenty of options to stay busy.
  • Do you have a teen interested in MLC? Contact the Admissions Office to arrange a meeting with an Admissions Counselor!

At noon, weather permitting, you can join the tailgate party on the Ultimate Field (by the gym). Food prices will be available at the tailgate.

So What’s the Same?

The Sprinter Fun Run is a Homecoming classic, beloved by alumni around the world!

Meet up with fellow alumni Saturday evening at the Alumni Mixer, held at Kegel Klub. The mixer has a cash bar and complimentary appetizers.

The Sunday Lineup will remain the same.

  • Sunday worship at the Chapel of the Christ
  • Soccer alumni games (men and women)

Whether you graduated five years ago or 55, this is your invitation to come home—to remember, reconnect, and rejoice in our shared mission.

CPGP - The Alphabet Soup and You

Josh Aden '25

"Finances can be a significant burden when attending [college]. It’s been a huge blessing to know that my church family is supporting me in my efforts here."

MLC's Congregational Partner Grant Program (CPGP) allows congregations to encourage and support their members who are preparing for the public ministry at MLC. For the 2025-2026 academic school year, MLC will match up to $1,600 in CPGP funds per student!

With an expected increase in the number of incoming first-year students, MLC anticipates needing over $900,000 in matching funds. What a fantastic blessing!

Will You Be the Match?

Congregations and individuals who want to support the program but do not have any members preparing for the public ministry at MLC can still contribute to this grant program.

The continuation of this program in future years relies heavily on the support of donors. Your contribution can help MLC match the congregational grants for years to come.

Hammer Time!

Scott Schmudlach takes a whack at the brick wall.

On July 1, we officially launched the long-anticipated Old Main Entrance project at MLC! With the ceremonial swing of the hammers, this milestone moment was celebrated by MLC family and friends along with many members of the New Ulm community.

The event began with a devotion by Dean of Chapel Jacob Behnken. Then President Rich Gurgel and New Ulm Mayor Kathleen Backer shared inspiring remarks, highlighting the significance of this project for both our campus and the community.

We extend heartfelt thanks to the generous donors whose gifts made this project possible. Your support is helping us enhance both the beauty and functionality of this beloved building, creating a more welcoming front door to MLC for generations to come.

Construction is set to begin this fall—be sure to check out the progress next time you’re on campus!
