From the Repair Desk: Transmitters vs Tank Pods
We get a lot of questions about syncing air integrated computers. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

  • Transmitter: If your computer uses a transmitter (such as the SUUNTO D4, D6 or D9), it is critical to sync your wrist unit to your transmitter before every dive. On the first dive of the trip, this usually requires clearing the code and starting from scratch. SUUNTO Transmitters send a rolling code, so can change from trip to trip. Once paired, it should continue to send that same code for the duration of your trip as long as you keep diving. Confirming you have your transmitter versus another divers can be challenging as the code can change and is not related to your transmitter serial number. We recommend making sure no other transmitters are nearby and under pressure prior to attempting your initial sync. And remember to take a few breaths off your regulator before jumping in to dive. If the transmitter doesn't detect a change in PSI within 5 minutes, it shuts off to conserve battery life. We’ve seen divers jump in only to discover their computer isn’t reading their tank. A periodic breath (or purge) will keep this from happening.

  • Tank Pods: If you dive with a computer that uses a tank pod (such as an EON Steel or Core or D5) we recommend memorizing the last 3 digits of your tank pod’s serial number. Your wrist unit pairs to your tank pod by identifying the serial number, and when properly connected, shouldn't lose its sync. If you purchased your computer from us and we installed the pod onto your regulator, we have paired your tank pod to your wrist unit. If your computer does lose connection, you need to re-pair the device to the tank pod by selecting your serial number from any available pods. Select the wrong serial number, and you'll start reading someone else's air! Memorizing the 3 digits helps you quickly check that you are synced to the right pod.
Please ask our staff if you have any questions, or to discuss best practices for using your computer.
As 2019 brings the decade to a close, make sure to check the expiration date of your passport! Most passports are good for 10 years, but many countries require that you have at least 6 months left of your current passport to enter their soil. Passports can take over a month to process so get started early if you’re approaching your expiration date.
POOL NIGHT ~ Once a month, we open our pool for divers to come in after hours and splash around. This is a self guided review (there won't be an instructor on duty) but gives you a chance to set up your gear, blow bubbles, and keep things fresh between trips. If you can't make it to Pool Night, you can call us to book a Pool Workout whenever our pool is available.
The pool will be available from 6:00-9:00 pm on the following nights:

  • December 30th
  • January 23rd
  • February 18th
  • March 19th

Rather have an instructor help evaluate your skills to make sure you're actually doing it correctly? Then our Scuba Refreshers are the choice for you!

SCUBA REFRESHERS ~ If it’s been longer than 2 years since your last dive, then you’ll need a SCUBA REFRESHER. In this four hour class, instructors will share practical tips from their personal experience of diving and jump in the water with you to make sure you are comfortable setting up your gear, controlling your buoyancy and review your emergency skills. The class is offered three times each month, and is often required by a resort if you haven't been diving in a year. If you have been out of the water for longer than 10 years, you will need to schedule this class privately.
Call the shop at 303-220-8282 for more information or click here for information on our upcoming SCUBA Refresher courses.
