• September 22-October 2 Mattoon Library hosts the Manhattan Shorts Global Film Festival
  • The Mattoon Library is proud to provide a venue for the public viewing of this global film festival. The films in this competition are high-quality works. Because the film festival spans the entire world, venues are usually located in larger cities. Mattoon is fortunate to be able to host. If you enjoy watching cinema, or you like to immerse yourself in world cultures and the arts, then this is the event for you.   • September 22 Groundbreaking Ceremony at 1614 Broadway Ave., next to Luigi's, 10am


  • September 24 Camp New Hope, Fall Fest Wheels of Hope Car Show
  • Join the 2nd Annual Fall Fun Fest at Camp New Hope. Day starts with the Trails of Hope 5k Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Click the link to register in advance.: www.raceentry.com/races/trails-ofhope/2022/register. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m., but shirts are not guaranteed. After the 5k: boat rides on beautiful Lake Mattoon, train rides, inflatables, games, music, and more. The Wheels of Hope Car Show begins at 10 a.m. with awards at 2 p.m. Admission is $10 per person for unlimited activities, or FREE for race and car show participants. Multiple food vendors will be available, and all will be donating a portion of their sales to Camp New Hope.


  • September 24 Lincoln Lap 3K Fun Run/Walk, 9am 
  • CCAR Industries’ first annual Lincoln Lap 3K Fun Run & Fall Festival will be held on Saturday. Participants can walk or run through the fall foliage and historical streets. Lincoln Log Cabin merchandise will be available for purchase. The run will end at City Hall. Local merchants, food trucks, free games and entertainment will be available after the run. For questions call 217-348-0127.


  • September 24 Tour de Charleston
  • Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce Tour de Charleston is this Saturday, starting and finishing at the Charleston Square. Races start at 7:50am, are timed with bibs and timing chips, food and water available along the routes. charlestonchamber.com/tour-de-charleston. 


  • September 24-25 Lincoln Log Cabin Harvest Fall Frolic
  • 10-4pm each day the 24th and 25th, Lincoln Log Cabin will celebrate 19th century living with activities including demonstrations of spinning, bookmaking, pottery, and many more 19th century crafts.   • September 27 Birds & Brews at Douglas Hart Nature Center
  • Come to Douglas Hart Nature Center for a Bird Hike with the Bike Club and enjoy an Avian themed brew after the hike. Cost is $12 for non members and $8 for members. For more information or to sign up go to dhnature.org
