January 24, 2019

Dear friends and fellow disciples,

Monday morning was COLD! Despite the weather, nearly 90 of you gathered with some friends from the Divan Center and went out to serve. After a cup of coffee and a bagel, groups went to Habitat for Humanity, Hope Valley Elementary, Githens Middle School, and Threshold.

They did so seeking to live their faith and to honor the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Old friends connected, and new friendships were made. We supported teachers and students and those in deep need of affordable housing in our community, which is becoming a more and more expensive place to live. Everyone came back to church around noon to warm up and share lunch. A couple of youth from the Divan Center had never been in a church before, so some of our youth gave them a tour of campus. It was a special day, and I'm grateful to all of you who served and especially to Amy Hill for organizing the day. There are a few photos for you to enjoy at the end of this email.

As we approach the weekend, please be praying for your Session. We'll be on retreat all day on Saturday at New Hope Camp & Conference Center. We hope to approve a budget for 2019 and will spend much of our time discussing the work on staffing we’ve done this fall. We have spent time with the feedback you offered, and we’re going to look at some draft job descriptions, talk timing, and begin to develop a plan. Please pray for us as we continue to discern the most faithful next steps.

Then, we'll see you on Sunday! It’s a big day:

January 27 is Scout Sunday  Scouts from BSA Troop, Pack, and Crew 451 (chartered at Westminster), and Girl Scout Troop 1806 will help serve as worship volunteers, and we’ll hear more about the impact of scouting during Sharing Our Mission. All are invited to enjoy refreshments in the Parlor after the 11:00am service. If you are a youth or adult member of a scouting group, be sure to wear your uniform to church on Sunday.

NEW Junior Youth Group  Our new Junior Youth Group for fourth and fifth graders has gotten off to a terrific start, with 16 kids attending the first meeting! Join the fun on  Sunday, at 12:15pm in the Youth Suite. It’s a great opportunity for the kids to get to know each other and a wonderful segue into WPC’s Youth Group. Lunch will be provided. Ekklesia Worship  Ekklesia offers a unique time of worship, a chance to connect with each other and engage in Scripture in new ways. It’s truly a special time. Please plan to join us on  Sunday, at 4:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. A big shout-out to all the musicians, singers, and volunteers who make it happen! Contact: Alex Stayer-Brewington

Looking ahead, make plans to join us for “ Souper Bowl," next Sunday, February 3, a fundraiser organized by our youth. Come ready to enjoy delicious soups and to bid and overpay for some wonderful baked goods for an EXCELLENT cause - to support youth summer trips and scholarships. Last but not least, be sure to sign up for our February 6 WOW, " Experience Haiti!" Learn all about this beautiful country, its history, culture, people, and cuisine.

So many opportunities to worship, connect, give, and learn! I’ll leave you with the aforementioned photos from Monday.

Grateful to be on the journey with you,
