Paper Roller Coaster Challenge
Cedar Falls students participated in the first-ever Central Rivers AEA Paper Roller Coaster Design Challenge in Clear Lake this past week. The competition is designed to engage students in engineering design in a fun environment that requires active participation.  Students had three hours to construct their paper roller coasters and competed for prizes in the following areas: overall winner (based on points), most creative use of theme, tallest roller coaster, longest run rime, and greatest  teamwork.
"Engineering design has a heavy emphasis in the new Iowa Science Standards and students are enjoying opportunities to expand their skills and experiences in STEM," said Mandie Sanderman, Central Rivers AEA consultant. "The Paper Roller Coaster Design Challenge also provides an opportunity for students to further refine their collaboration and cooperative learning skills."
