Glen Arbor experienced a shortage of restaurants last Summer. To fill in the gap, we're pleased to see several new options to indulge the tastebuds...

• Inn & Trail Gourmet for coffee, grab & go items for a picnic, specialty foods and more!

• L’chayim deli, with successful locations in Beulah and Frankfort, coming soon to downtown Glen Arbor.

• Discover a food truck called “Fried,” brought to you by Crystal River Outfitters, in the open lot next to the new kayak livery.

• Beyond Glen Arbor, try the Shipwreck Café in Empire for some of the best, fresh sandwiches around.

...What a relief for our local food purveyours, although Art’s Tavern, Cherry Public House or Western Avenue Grill may still be worth the wait.

County-wide fiber-based Broadband

Have you reflected, as you come into Glen Arbor, on what may be happening behind the scenes among those who serve and host you? These are our neighbors and friends, the creators and entrepreneurs and problem solvers, that glue this community together. It takes everyone putting their heads together to bring the services you enjoy.

One of the most exciting of those initiatives is the county-wide fiber-based Broadband Project. Stimulus money that came our way is being directed to isolated areas that do not connect to any cable, wireless or cellular provider. Believe it or not, that’s more than 20% of the County.

New towers will reach to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse on the north, farms outside Empire on the south, and calls with “dead spots” you have experienced along M22 in between.

Woodhull & Claflin’s Weekly dated July 5, 1873

What a find! This small piece of newspaper, used as insulation in our historic inn, was discovered hidden under five layers of wallpaper when we renovated in 2001. Such a fascinating artifact. We peeled it up in the front bedroom, helping us date when the inn – originally a boarding house for loggers – was built on the main corner in Glen Arbor. A joy to imagine all the guests who entered this house to find warm hospitality over the years.
