A message from the Executive Director...
Season's Greetings!

Since our last newsletter, The Arc covered Halloween with our annual costume bash, launched our Giving and Thanksgiving year-end campaign, took time to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends, successfully adopted out 30 children for our First In Families' Operation Santa, and now look forward to a winter break as we observe the Christmas season. Whew! That's a lot to celebrate!

The Arc will be back in the new year in preparation for our biggest fundraiser of the year, "We Heart The Arc." We hope you'll attend to show your love for The Arc on February 11, 2022, at the historic and picturesque Rubicon Farm in West End. Don't worry about the weather ... we'll have firepits, heaters and plenty of hearty food to keep you warm. You won't want to miss a performance of our own Joyful Noise Choir and a chance to win something grand in our live and silent auction! Make this annual event a New Year's commitment!

Thank you all for your continued support and participation. Cheers to a wonderful holiday season and new year!

~ Wendy Carter

Get your sweetheart, bundle up, and get ready for our annual Valentine's Day shindig, fondly known as "We Heart The Arc." It will take place on February 11, 2022 at the picturesque Rubicon Farm in West End, complete with firepits to keep you warm, great food to fill you up, and auction items you can't live without. Our committee is in the process of designing an amazing night for you. We're creating gift baskets that will be auctioned off in a Silent Auction, and we are rounding up incredible Live Auction items as well. In addition we are making delightful gifts for our attendees and getting our own Joyful Noise Choir involved as well. Please save this date... you don't want to miss it! Tickets will go on sale in January on our website and in our office.

We Heart The Arc!

Can you contribute items for our silent auction? Would your business consider underwriting or sponsoring this event? We'd love to talk to you! Please email Laura Thomson ([email protected]) to discuss. Thanks for your consideration.

Santa Comes to Town

Each year our First in Families program offers "Operation Santa," a unique approach to helping local families in need. We get wish lists from approximately 25-30 parents and then our amazing volunteers go shopping to purchase the wishes of each child. First in Families is fortunate to partner with Toys for Tots and receives large quantities of donated toys and games for parents to access when they pick up their child's bag of goodies!
"It's wonderful to be able to provide toys and necessities to our local children and families," said one of our volunteer shoppers. Some add their own personal touch and get sibling gifts as well as grocery gift cards so that the whole family has a nice Christmas! Tis the season to be thankful, and we are very thankful not only for the children and families we serve, but for those individuals, friends, families and local businesses that went the extra mile this year to share with our Operation Santa families. Job well done!

Halloween Bash,
A Spooky, Fun Night
If you missed the Halloween party this year, we're sorry... you missed a Really. Fun. Night. If you were there, you know what an amazing time we had! Everything from the atmosphere in the Fair Barn to the table décor, costumes, pizza and our DJ (Joey from Party Tyme Entertainment) knocked it out of the park. We thank our volunteers, parents, house staff and workers who helped make this night a huge success. Mostly we would like to give a SHOUT OUT to the 105 people who got dressed up and came out to scare us, make us laugh, and just all around have a wonderful time. You're the best!

Thanksgiving and Giving
As the year comes to a close, we make our final request for you to consider a financial contribution to our organization. Giving Tuesday has passed, but there's still time to give!

Meet Elias and Sandra, Respite recipient and Respite worker. They've known each other for a long time and have a very special bond, as you can see. Your donation to The Arc of Moore County during our Thanksgiving and Giving Campaign ensures that bonds like these can continue into the future. We thank you for considering your financial gift today.

In addition to a standard donation to The Arc, another vehicle for giving is through your Traditional IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Susie and Dave Roeder offer a gift each year to The Arc this way. They became involved with The Arc back in 2005 when they moved to the area and needed services for their son James. Since that time Susie and Dave have volunteered for a number of events and she is now serving on our board of directors. The Roeders call their giving a win-win situation because their RMD goes directly from their financial management company to The Arc, a non-profit, thereby bypassing the need to pay tax on this money. Susie suggests that this makes them, and perhaps others, more inclined to be generous as they never touch the money. Please join the Roeder family and make a generous donation to The Arc through your IRA before the clock runs out. This would be an amazing contribution during our Thanksgiving and Giving campaign.

If you are interested in making a gift such as this before the 12/31 deadline, please contact your financial planner/CFP to help complete the necessary paperwork and get the wheels turning. We thank you for your consideration.

Something to consider, "...maximize the tax benefits, pursue objectives such as involving your family in philanthropic decisions, and ensure your contributions benefit the causes you care about." (Eye on Money, Jan/Feb 2019 issue)
