"We are creatures of our environment. We return to an environment and subconsciously fall back into pre-set behaviour patterns e.g. adults returning to their childhood home where their parents still live. When you are repeatedly in the same surroundings of home, work, social places, you absorb the energy of your surroundings, which mould you on the mental, emotional and physical levels. The same surroundings will generate the same moulds. Now you have the opportunity to choose your new options and select your new inputs."

Q: Please describe your very first coming into awareness about Feng Shui.
A: As a child, with shovel in hand and on the sly, I rearranged the flowers in neighboring gardens – much to the chagrin of my mother. As the creator and owner of Blooming Success, my interior landscaping business in the San Francisco Bay Area, mall operators asked for my assistance guiding the flow of visitors. They noticed that as I changed the plantings, people moved in ever-changing ways. We worked together to encourage movement that eased the movement of the elderly, provided teens with safe places to congregate, and opened areas of congestion.
I had not yet heard of Feng Shui.

Final Thoughts: Rituals and Building Ceremonies from Alex Stark
Building rituals and ceremonies are among the more interesting contributions of feng shui and geomancy to our building practices. They can be used to prepare the land for use, to clear out unwanted energies in existing buildings, to bless or consecrate land or buildings for a particular purpose, and even to help with serious problems such as illness or misfortune.
In general, rituals are keyed to the cycles of nature, the rotations of the sun and moon, the seasons, or other celestial events. Feng shui, in particular, has an array of tools which are used to determine ideal times for ground-breaking ceremonies, initiation of construction, grand openings, and so on. Use of these parameters provides a safe way to forestall any potentially negative consequences and to promote long-term success for the individuals or institutions involved.
