Sonoma County Earns Awards
for Recovery and Resiliency Framework and
ACCESS Initiative
|
The County of Sonoma was recognized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) with two Achievement Awards for the Recovery and Resiliency Framework, and
the Accessing Coordinated Care and Empowering Self-Sufficiency (ACCESS) initiative. The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

ACCESS Sonoma County Wins IBM Watson Health 2019 Advantage Award
The IBM Watson Health Advantage Awards recognize hospitals, health plans, government agencies and employers that are breaking new ground in the use of data and analytics to improve the quality, effectiveness and affordability of healthcare and social programs.
This award comes days after ACCESS Sonoma County was notified of winning the National Association of Counties (NACo) award in the Health Award category.

Sonoma County launches 2020 Census Kick-off event
|
The County of Sonoma and United Way of the Wine Country will be hosting a local Complete Count Committee Kick-off event for the 2020 Census.
We encourage all community based organizations and other local stakeholders working with
hard-to-count
communities to attend this meeting, which will include presentations by the California Complete Count Office, the US Census Bureau, United Way of the Wine County and the County of Sonoma.
When: May 17 – 12pm to 2pm

Vegetation Management
Inspectors from Sonoma County or your local Fire District will be inspecting 3,500 properties for compliance with the Sonoma County Fire Safety Ordinance 13A for the abatement of hazardous vegetation and combustible materials.
These inspections, along with accompanying informational materials, can help you learn how to reduce wildfire risks at your property.

County Supervisors and staff participated in a quarterly workshop to learn how they can enhance their abilities to respond to a major emergency or disaster.
The workshop focused on:
- An overview of the County’s earthquake hazard and potential impacts
- A review of the County’s earthquake mitigation, preparedness and response capabilities
- A discussion about how County government, local jurisdictions and allied stakeholders would respond and initiate recovery during and after a major earthquake event

Framework Implementation Report
In April, the Office of Recovery and Resiliency presented the first quarter update for 2019 on progress towards implementation of the Sonoma County Recovery and Resiliency Framework.
The Implementation Report highlights progress made towards the Recovery Top Ten Priorities and updates on other key action items that have been initiated.

2-1-1 Sonoma County
The Board of Supervisors provided funding for United Way of the Wine Country to develop a transition plan to enhance the local 2-1-1 system with better coordination and consolidation of public information during a disaster.
2-1-1 Sonoma County is a free telephone information and referral service staffed by multilingual specialists, 24 hours a day, seven days a week to connect residents to non-emergency health and human services resources.

These may include evacuation notifications, shelter-in-place, boil water advisories, tsunami warnings and flood warnings.
This service is free, secure, reliable, and easy to use. SoCoAlert notifications may be sent via text, email, voice, web, and social media.

New Public Education Campaign Targets Speeding Cars and Aggressive Driving
The Department of Transportation and Public Works (TPW) launched the second element of a new traffic calming program in response to recent fatalities and concerns among TPW officials and County residents about unsafe and aggressive driving.
The new tactic involves the placement of three separate and straightforward warning signs, “Don’t Kill”, “Don’t Die”, and “Slow Down” along road segments that are known trouble spots. The measure follows the acquisition and deployment of a radar feedback sign trailer countywide in response to community concerns.

County Survey Seeks Input about Older Adult Services
The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) invites residents of all ages to offer input on future programs and services for older adults, seniors, persons with disabilities, and local caregivers by completing its Senior Needs Assessment Survey by June 30.

County departments and local nonprofits celebrate CalFresh Month during May with countywide healthy produce, recipe cards and cookbook giveaways, cloth market bags, farmers market discounts, nutrition education events, CalFresh on-site enrollment and more.

Department of Child Support Services
|
The State of California recognized Sonoma County’s Department of Child Support Services for the highest increase in total distributed collections for the families participating in the program.
Since 2014 through 2018, Sonoma Child Support staff has worked to increase this total by 22.7% across five years culminating in over $35 million in total distributed collections in 2018.
