We are partnering with area businesses, schools, and colleges to promote trades career pathways for South Indy residents.

September 10 @ 6:00pm

We are promoting home ownership, housing repair, and responsible landlords.

September 11 @ 5:30pm

Promoting affordable and free healthy foods through community gardening, implementing "Little Free Pantry" program, and improving environmental issues impacting our neighborhoods.

September 25 @ 6:00pm  
The Tube Factory (1125 Cruft Street) 
We will paint a mural in the Troy and I65 underpass on Indy Do Day, Sept. 29. We seek ways to incorporate art and banners throughout the Shelby St. Corridor. Promoting local businesses and creating the Shelby Street Village concept.

  • We had 8 organizations come present trades career pathways.
   - Brightwood College : eletrical technician certification program 
   - Tube Processing Corporation : Manufacturing
   - MacAllister Machinery : Machinists, Technicians, drivers, and coordinators
   - Christel House Academy : DORS program (High School for Adults)
   - Wood Gallery : woodshop and woodworking classes
   - Big Car Woodshop : carpentry, building
   - Vincennes University Aviation Technology Center : aviation maintenance
   - Manual High School : Welding Program (American Welding Society certification)
  • An unexpected outcome was that these organizations networked and will be able to collaborate in the future to better serve our residents.
  • We had 42 participants.
  • We had a good diversity of participants.
  • We gave away 40 SoIndy tote bags with school supplies.
  • We provided healthy refreshments of fruit and water to participants.
  • We distributed 13 door prizes to winning participants: (4) $25 Kroger gift cards, (8) IndyGo 1 day bus passes, (1) custom carved wood plaque by the Wood Gallery.
  • 2 participants expressed interested in joining the SoIndy Education and Workforce Development Action Team!
  • We introduced our new SoIndy mascot (photo below). Come to a SoIndy event in September to vote on his/her name.
