SoMi PD: Living up to its motto: Excellence, Integrity, & Inclusion

The City of South Miami Police Department has honored a few of its best.

Please join us in giving a tip of the cap to the SoMi Criminal Investigations Division for earning the Unit Citation Award. The unit includes Lieutenant Jesus Aguiar, Sergeant Fernando Bosch, Detective Matt Taylor, Detective Jose Alvarez, and Detective Victor Jackson.

In addition, SoMi PD has chosen its Officer of the Year. Congratulations to Detective Jose Alvarez.

All these officers (plus their colleagues who serve and protect SoMi each day) represent the finest in South Florida law enforcement.

This all follows the South Miami Police Department receiving reaccreditation by the prestigious Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) earlier this year.

...and speaking of SoMi PD:

We have three new officers

Three new SoMi PD officers were just sworn in. The officers fill three positions that were previously unfilled.

Cities helping cities: SoMi approves Mutual Aid agreement with Town of Medley

The City of South Miami has approved a Mutual Aid Agreement with the Town of Medley.

Mutual Aid agreements exist between most South Florida cities. They allow outside cities' first responders to travel to other cities to assist during emergencies.

SoMi already has agreements with its nearby neighbors (Coral Gables, Pinecrest, etc) but it's common to have similar agreements with the majority of cities in the general area or county. After all, who ever saw a hurricane that only affected one city? We haven't either!
