Police Department

SMPD attend 5000 Role Model Police & Youth Conference

Chief Hatfield along with Lt Bukens & Lt Nave attended the 5000 Role Model Police & Youth Conference, always putting dedication to community a priority. Congrats to the many youths being recognized!

SMPD is Training for a Safer SoMi

Our Lieutenants, Captains, and Chiefs recently completed Firearms Training Day at the Homestead Training Center, ensuring they met FDLE certification standards while also receiving advanced tactical training.


We were honored to have City Commissioners Steve Calle & Danny Rodriguez and members of our civilian staff join us in support of our departments ongoing commitment to safety and preparedness.

Communications Officer (Police)

The Communications Officer position is responsible for making effective and efficient decisions based on established policies and procedures. This position is responsible for receiving and dispatching non-emergency calls to Police Officers on shift.



Recreation Leader

The Recreation Leader is responsible for clerical work and is the lead for programs, events, athletics and activities, including supervision of facilities, equipment, and supplies. Work is performed under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor and is reviewed for accomplishment of objectives through results obtained, reports and conferences.


Park Ranger

The Park Ranger position is responsible for performing non-sworn entry level duties related to the safety and security of sites within the Parks and Recreation Department.


Recreation Aide (Seasonal)

The Recreation Aide position is responsible for assisting the Recreation Leader in a variety of planned recreational programs and events at the City parks, such as outdoor sporting events, games and leisure activities. This position requires hands-on participation and oversight of activities involving groups of varying age ranges. Work is performed under the general direction of the Recreation Leader and is reviewed for accomplishment of objectives through results obtained, reports and conferences.
