Soaring to exciting heights in the New Year

The 2023 calendar year was one of the most impressive years in recent OC Foundation history. We witnessed record numbers of scholarship applicants, new donors, and new board members. And that's just part of the story!

The OC Foundation Board of Directors spent the last five months developing a strategic plan to guide the Foundation into its next three to five years. The board is currently reviewing a draft version of the plan, but key action items include:

  • Enhancing our image and telling our story.
  • Identifying and engaging our alumni and donors.
  • Building our revenue streams.
  • Growing our infrastructure.

The premier goal of the plan is to serve as a strong resource to Oxnard College, its programs, and its students. This will be achieved by working closely with the campus and greater communities, business and community organizations, and Condor alumni. The plan calls for significant increases in fundraising, campus support, and scholarship grant awards. It creates opportunities for alumni and community leaders to mentor students, employers to connect with potential hires, alumni to reconnect with their alma mater, and everyone to celebrate Oxnard College's 50th Anniversary.

The future is extremely bright!

FIRE ACADEMY

21 Cadets Graduated from Battalion 60

An outstanding group of Oxnard College students completed their requirements to be recognized at the recent Fire Academy graduation. These Condor alumni are ready for employment in the fire service sector!

Twelve cadets received over $16,000 in scholarship grants at the graduation ceremony. It was the initial presentation of a new grant awarded by the Ventura County Bomberos, a group of local fire fighters committed to local students through scholarship support and career mentorship.

MARKETPLACE

Santa Visited the Community Marketplace

Over 800 children saw Santa Claus and received gifts distributed by Ventura County firefighters, Lazer Media leaders, and Oxnard College students. Family members enjoyed fun activities, shopping, and food throughout the amazing day on the Oxnard College campus. Special thanks to those who contributed toys to make the day very special!

STEM ALUMNI

OC STEM Alumni Association's

Alum of the Month

Miguel Herrera '21

He transferred out of Oxnard College in 2021 to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

He is finishing up his last year at SLO and loves to visit local restaurants with his roommates when not stressed about assignments.

One of his favorite moments at Oxnard College was the tournament hosted in collaboration with FYE. It was amazing to see both faculty and fellow students together outside the usual academic environment.

He wants to work an embedded engineering role, hopefully local to Ventura County, but as long as it's still within California.

Read Miguel's full story, including his tips for transfer students, bios of other STEM Stars, and all about the OC STEM Alumni Association at www.oxnardcollegefoundation.org/STEM-alumni.
