Beloit Report
Social Distancing Requirements Extended
At their meeting on July 6, the Beloit City Council unanimously approved a resolution that will allow the economy to reopen while protecting vulnerable residents, and help keep the health care system from being overwhelmed. This resolution was extended through August 4, 2020, and will be re-evaluated monthly based on the latest available health data.

Krueger Pool Reopened July 9th with Changes Due to COVID-19
Krueger Municipal Pool reopened July 9th with safety precautions, including a reservation requirement, physical distancing and capacity limit.

At this time, we cannot accommodate "drop ins" and swim sessions must be made by registering. Beloit residents will receive preference when making registrations.

Public Works Director Laura Williamson reminds us that the CDC.gov website states: "Evidence suggests that COVID-19 cannot be spread to humans through most recreational water. Additionally, proper operation of these aquatic venues and disinfection of the water (with chlorine or bromine) should inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19." The City uses chlorine, since this is an outdoor unheated pool. Bromine is best for an indoor or heated water application.

The CDC suggests that swimming and other water-related activities are excellent ways to get the physical activity needed for a healthy life. Remember to follow the CDC guidelines:
  • Stay home if feeling sick
  • Practice social distancing
  • Keep hands clean
  • Cover your cough

Restrooms will be disinfected throughout the day and numerous signs will be posted throughout the pool reminding guests of guidelines.

Weather permitting, the southern two lanes of Shirland Avenue (east of the Rock River) will be closed from July 6 - 20, 2020 as construction begins on the new downtown stadium.

Once the southern lanes are completed, the northern lanes will be closed for approximately a year. (Anticipated to be closed from July 21, 2020 to June 12, 2021.)

Detour Route
Portion of White Avenue Closed for Concrete Repair Project
White Avenue (State Highway 81) is closed in both directions between Milwaukee Road and Prairie Avenue for concrete repair through July 22, weather permitting. The official detour, including truck traffic, will be using Cranston Road and U.S. Highway 51.

Beloit Counts. You Count.
Shape Your Future!
Please respond to the Census
As of July 8, Beloit's response rate for the U.S. Census is 66.4%, which is slightly lower than the state average of 68.9% but higher than the national self-response rate of 62%.

Starting in July, census takers will visit homes that haven't yet responded to the 2020 Census. Census takers will wear masks and follow local public health guidelines. If someone visits your home, make sure they have a valid ID badge with their photo, a US Dept. of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date. Census workers may also carry Census Bureau bags and other equipment with the Census Bureau logo.

The Beloit Public Library is now open for the use of computers. The questionnaire takes about 10 minutes to complete.
