What better way to practice social distancing than enjoying the outdoors at a local state park! Enjoy hiking, biking, camping and much more!

Fishing on the Alleghany Highlands Blueway
There's not many activities more peaceful than fishing. We encourage you to get out on the waters of the Cowpasture & Jackson Rivers, Lake Moomaw & Douthat Lake for some peaceful social distancing!

Take a leisurely walk/ride on the Jackson River Scenic Trail
The 14.4 mile Jackson River Scenic Trail is a wonderful asset to the Alleghany Highlands. The trail winds along the Jackson River and is filled with scenic views!

Go for a Hike
The Alleghany Highlands Region is comprised of over 50% National Forest Lands and has hundreds of miles of trails! Social distancing at its finest!

Visit a Historic/Scenic Site
Falling Springs Falls is a beautiful cascading 80ft waterfall that has a beautiful overlook of the waterfall and mountain range behind it.
Humpback Bridge is the oldest and only remaining humpback covered bridge in the U.S. it has a great wayside park and Virginia is for Lovers "LOVE" sign.
Mountain Biking
The Alleghany Highlands is home to some of the best mountain biking terrain in the state! Douthat State Park and hundreds of miles of trails throughout the region add up to a great way to practice social distancing in the outdoors!

Go for a Picnic
There are numerous locations in the Alleghany Highlands to get away and enjoy a small picnic with friends or family. Humpback Bridge, The Jackson River Scenic Trail, Lake Moomaw, Douthat State Park are a few with wide open spaces!

Visit Lake Moomaw
A true hidden gem of the Alleghany Highlands, Lake Moomaw has 43 miles of undeveloped shoreline. Outdoor recreational possibilities abound from fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking, camping and much more!

Visit a Local Park
Most parks in the region are closed for organized events but still open for individual recreation. Both Clifton Forge and Covington have wonderful parks for you to enjoy!
