Social Justice is the unifying mandate of Reform Judaism, central to who we are and what we do in contributing to Tikkun Olam, repairing the world -- through direct service, Tzedakah (Righteous Giving) and advocacy. Join us!
Fabulous news! We are now able to provide 12 new sewing machines, accessories, and supplies for the Farmworkers Association of Florida in Homestead -- all in support of a critical women’s training program for farmworkers who can no longer work in the fields due to lack of child care. More women will be able to learn skills for making items that can be sold in support of their families. And thanks to the amazing generosity of the Temple Israel congregation, we will be able to fund expansion of that program and other needs as time goes by and we grow the relationship with our new friends. Stay tuned for more news as those purchases are made and put into service. We are looking to organize opportunities for hands-on congregational involvement when things open up -- so that you, too, can feel the love and strength of the good people who harvest our food.
You can still add to our Homestead Project Fund by writing a check or donating online to Temple Israel with Social Justice/Homestead on the memo line. Thank you!
HUNGER! It’s a terrible problem everywhere we look -- especially for senior citizens managing chronic diseases and struggling to buy healthy foods. Nearly 10% of all Americans over 65 live in poverty. Temple Israel is collecting the non-perishable food items listed below M-F/9am-5pm, and everything we collect in May will go to De Hostos Senior Center in Wynwood in honor of “Older Americans Month.” Involve your children so they can know the need and be part of our effort...and please be generous. Thank you!

The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC) has launched its 2021 Racial Justice Campaign -- addressing systemic racism head on by demanding policy change on both a state and federal level, including passage of H.R.1 (“For the People Act”) and H.R.4 (John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act). We are connected by RAC-FL, representing 57 congregations coming together to build a more just and compassionate Florida. You can do your part by signing up for updates and alerts, and responding to those in a timely fashion; doing so usually takes just a few minutes. Add your voice to those of Reform Jews all across America seeking Social Justice for all -- especially on May 8th, the John Lewis Voter Advancement Day of Action!
