Issue: #133

April 2020

Life looks a little different this month, and so does my email newsletter.
I decided to record the video below from my home (with my favorite cookies and Lysol in hand) because I'm getting a lot of really urgent and important questions from parents and grandparents of children with special needs. I thought this was the easiest way to show you what you should be thinking about during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond from the comfort of your home (and obviously mine).

As I always tell my clients, "hope for the best and plan for the worst." Well, this is the worst. If you don't have a plan in place for your child with special needs, the time to get started is NOW. This is especially urgent considering that a second wave could hit in the fall/winter months.
I want you to have the peace of mind knowing that if something happens, your child's inheritance would be passed to him or her in a safe way without jeopardizing his or her ability to receive public benefits like Medicaid or SSI.
It's also a good idea for grandparents to view this video. Forward them this email if you can. If they have older estate planning documents (Wills or Trusts) that do not take into account a loved one with special needs, it's a good idea to have them review and possibly update those documents now.

I also have other videos on my YouTube Channel and on my website's video page that address other Special Needs Planning topics (such as Guardianship and Disabled Adult Child Benefits) that are helpful for you to watch.

Of course, if you have any questions, I am here and working with clients remotely during this time. If you'd like to set up a phone or video meeting, just hit "reply" and let me know a few dates and times that work best for you.
Stay Safe,
