Dear Community Member,

It was really wonderful to see library staff return on June 19 to begin the process thawing out our libraries, which have been frozen in time since March 12. It was quite something to return to chairs with heavy sweaters draped around them, and fliers for programs happening in March.

After processing three months of book drop returns, and reaching out to see if you still wanted the materials we were holding since our doors closed, we are now offering contactless pick-up! Have you tried it yet?!

Whether we contact you to let you know something you requested is ready, or you contact us for assistance locating materials in our collection, once you receive a notification something's ready, you can schedule a time to pick-up your holds at any of our library locations, either online or by calling us. Once you arrive, a librarian will meet you at the door to hand off a paper bag containing your materials.

If you've been wondering how the West Branch restoration and renovation is going, Somerville Historic Preservation recently shared images capturing the progress. The image included here highlights the second floor, the new location of our children's room, which is the most dramatic change to the original building. Look at the opening for the restored skylight! To see more West Branch photos, view our Flickr!

We are really happy to be back in our buildings and seeing you again, even for the briefest of exchanges. It's a great first step that I hope we continue to build upon as our community continues to stay safe and healthy.

Take care, and enjoy these summer days!
