Gosh darn it, these rainy Saturdays are cramping our style. Apparently Mother Nature is just not feeling the festive fall vibes. So Apple Jam has been rescheduled for October 21st and will now share the spotlight with our Hot Pepper Eating Contest for a sweet meets heat Saturday!
As for this weekend, the Market must go on. It's been two long weeks and our cupboards and refrigerators are bare. So, we'll say it again, grab your slicker and slip on those boots. All your farmers will be waiting on the riverfront with a bounty of fresh produce and beautiful blooms. Most of our bakeries and specialty food and beverage vendors (yes there will be coffee!) will be there too.
Guest vendors include Wild for Salmon, Mediterra Olive Oil, River Valley Community Grains, Fraktured Sauces and Airmidian Natural Remedies.
NOTES: We're planning on an early closing at NOON to beat the worst of the rain.
Allerton Sharpening will not be at the market because their equipment can't get wet. Look for Rich to return on 11/11 & 11/18.
Portch Tea will have cans only thuis week; no growler refills.

We thought this was a good weekend to share one several recently unearthed Morning Call articles! A big thank you to former EFM assistant market manager Liz Wyant for uncovering these fascinating snippets of Easton Market history. This one is from 1940. Watch for more in the coming weeks.
P.S. Liz now manages the Phillipsburg Farmers Market. Check it out at Shappell Park on Sundays from 10-2.

5-Ingredient Breakfast Stuffed Acorn Squash
From PaleOMG
Looking to change-up your breakfast routine? Winter squash is the answer! We love this recipe for a festive fall brunch. You can also pre-roast a couple of squash and pre-cook the sausage so you can enjoy this dish on a busy morning. It makes a great 'breakfast for dinner' option too! Breakaway Farms has dozens of sausages to choose from. Or go without and keep it vegetarian!

Phillips Farms will have plenty of Cauliflower this weekend, all in beautiful colors. The rain forecast won’t stop the bountiful harvest they will bring to market, including: broccoli, winter squash, fennel, leeks, arugula, lettuce, radishes, Jersey tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, peppers, Brussels sprouts, green beans, carrots, kale, Swiss chard, beets, onions, potatoes, garlic, fresh herbs and more. Fruits include over 10 varieties of apples and pears. And their fresh-pressed apple cider and fragrant Eucalyptus bunches are not to be missed.
The apple roster is holding steady at nine varieties - Honeycrisp, Ludacrisp, Crimson Gold, Crimson Crisp, Gala, Fuji, Macintosh, Macoun, and Cortland. What's your favorite? If you prefer to drink your apples, the Scholl crew is pressing fresh cider for the weekend. Psst... we hear there will be lots more apple cider donuts too!
If pears are your preference, there are Bartlett and Seckel to choose from. We'd suggest pairing them with a nice Camembert or blue cheese from Raspberry Ridge.
On the veggie end of the spectrum, are tomatoes (keep 'em coming), zucchini, cucumbers, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, wax beans, green beans, pepper and eggplant.

This week's fill line-up includes: Lettuce mix, arugula, spinach, head lettuce, kale, collards, Swiss chard, dandelion greens, pak choy, broccoli raab, green cabbage, red cabbage, fennel, dill, parsley, cilantro, beets, carrots, radishes, turnips, scallions, eggplant, peppers, pears, apples and butternut squash.
Cabbage Throw Farm is bringing a bounty of salad greens, including arugula, farmers' mix, spring mix, and gem romaine along with several varieties of winter squash that all pair well in a salad with the sweet fall flavor of apples and pears. Additional produce available includes broccolini, cabbage, napa cabbage, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, specialty radish, turnips, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, dandelion greens, scallions, herbs, shallots, onions, garlic and more.

It's been a crisp, cool couple of weeks, and while some flowers don't like these temps others are thriving. The dahlias, hydrangea, hibiscus, salvia, and many others are loving the cooler nights and sunny days. But, as the temperatures continue to drop the blooms will continue to slow down, and once we get a hard frost they will be done for the year. That means there's likely only a couple more weeks of farm fresh bouquets! Despite the rainy forecast, Holy Cow will be bringing lots of cheer so be sure to come out on Saturday to stock up on some of the last blooms of the season.
