The Centenary of Sofia Cavalletti
This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad.
Psalm 118:24
Today, we rejoice as we celebrate the gift of the life of Sofia Cavalletti! For one hundred days we have been pondering “mustard seeds” of wisdom from our work in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in preparation of this day. May it be abundantly full of peace and joy!
On this day of celebration, we are delighted to once again share an interview with Sofia Cavalletti from the CGSUSA Archives. Sofia speaks with Bert O'Bryan about the parable of the Good Shepherd and how the deepest need of the child is fulfilled through this parable.
Sofia always looked to the response of the child, and so, to best honor her on this her Centenary, we are sharing a collection of the children responses to this parable and we sing…
Sofia writes in  The Religious Potential of the Child 6-12:
"The gift of the Good Shepherd’s love, therefore, not only fulfills the deepest of our vital needs but realizes what seems to be a fundamental law of life. At every level of reality, life appears to unfold through successive “deaths’” which lead to fuller forms of life…The secret of reality seems to be in this continuous passage from less to more, from a death to a resurrection. "
