We are delighted to invite our community to meet Bohumír Janský and Eva Janská, who will visit San Francisco on their way to a conference (AAG) in Hawaii.
Do not miss this unique opportunity to meet the highly respected geographer, hydrologist, and explorer Prof. Dr. Bohumir Janský, who discovered the true source of the Amazon River and doc. RNDr. Eva Janská. Ph.D. who is a specialist researcher on Czech Diaspora and migration.

Prof. Janský of Charles University led several international expeditions in Siberia, Central Asia, and Latin America and, with his team, discovered the true source of the Amazon river.
Prof. Janský's lifelong work and passion focuses on Geography, Hydrology, Water Management, and Water Protection, primarily issues with drought and floods in the Czech Republic.
Specialist researcher on Czech diaspora and migration, Doc. Janská focuses on international migration and the adaptation of immigrants into the majority society. Our community participated in Doc. Janská's research project into expatriate issues directly influencing its outcomes and resulting recommendations on diaspora policymaking.
We will hear about some great adventures, learn exciting facts about our 'blue planet', and be awed by people's determination to find their place to call home in the world.
Presentation and conversation will be in both Czech and English

The Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve, known officially as the Baylands Nature Preserve, is the largest tract of undisturbed marshland remaining in the San Francisco Bay. Fifteen miles of multi-use trails provide access to a unique mixture of tidal and fresh water habitats.

Pomocí básní se dají vyjádřit emoce, pohrát si s jazykem. Tuhle příležitost dostali Češi v Sokolu v San Francisku, kteří se zúčastnili literární soutěže. Básně se líbily, a když se k nim přidaly ilustrace, vyšly ve Věstníku.

Golden Gate Park with a visit to T.G. Masaryk's bust

Beautiful spring day at Golden Gate Park. Our group walked about 3 miles and we visited the Rose garden, which holds the bust of our first president TG Masaryk, walked by a freshly fallen huge redwood, took an elevator to the top floor of DeYoung museum to enjoy 360 degrees of spectacular views of San Francisco and enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting new .
Our next hike is on April 21, 2024

České kempování s dětmi

V termínu od 16. do 23. června 2024 se bude konat třetí ročník českého
kempování (nejen) rodičů s dětmi. V tomto týdnu se pokusíme vytvořit v Kalifornii české prostředí plné českých her, pohádek a písniček.
Budeme kempovat u městečka Arnold, nedaleko od Bear Valley.
Kempování přinese aktivity převážně pro děti, ale určitě neodmítneme dospělé bez dětí, zvláště pokud by chtěli s organizací kempování nějak pomoci.

NEJBOHATŠÍ ČECH RANÉ KALIFORNIE

Na počátku 70. let 19. století byl Francis Korbel už úspěšným obchodníkem. Ještě netušil, že ten největší úspěch jej nečeká v San Francisku, ale v divoké přírodě údolí Sonoma, kde bratři koupili velké pozemky. V roce 1872 je tam přilákalo sekvojové dřevo, které začali ve velkém těžit a na vlastních zámořských lodích je pak vyváželi do Evropy a Latinské Ameriky. Když ale stavební boom s ekonomickou krizí opadl, zjistili, že mají spoustu dřeva, po kterém je malá poptávka. Korbelové byli ale odjakživa vynalézaví, a tak přemýšleli, co by se s vykácenými pozemky dalo dělat. Brzy přišli na to, že úrodná půda je ideální pro zemědělské účely. Začali pěstovat dobytek, vyrábět sýry, pustili se do pěstování mnoha plodin, např. vojtěšky, řepy, kukuřice, pšenice i švestek.
