Sokol SF Newsletter - February 2023
President's Message
Dear Sokol SF Members and Friends,

After holding a successful virtual and in-person Annual Meeting last month, we're thrilled to announce that our Board has a new member and some former members in new roles. With this team at the helm, we're anticipating another year of fantastic events and ample opportunity for our incredible community to continue to gather.

As always, we welcome you to become a member of Sokol SF. There are many benefits to membership (from Sokol-sponsored event discounts, preferred seating, and early registration to events, scholarships to our Czech School, which are given to successful applicants of members only, and many others!). There has never been a better time to join!

With that, we're off to a busy month, and we hope to see you at one of our many events.

Nazdar!

Recap of Past Events
Annual Sokol SF Member Meeting
at DJ Bistro in Concord or online
2022 Highlights
Our first Annual Meeting was available in person as well as virtually.

We had great participation; 23 members enjoyed a delicious lunch at DJ Bistro. Duck, řízek, svíčková and koleno were among the most popular!

We had 9 people join us via Zoom.

We reflected on our activities in 2022 and expansion of our program by adding events which brought younger population, families with children as well as our valued long time members. The Board of Directors was elected for 2023 and the budget for 2023 was approved.

Our calendar for 2023 includes monthly hikes and pickleball as well as concerts, camping, Easter and Christmas themed events, Children's Day picnic, Sokolsky beh and many more.

We want to thank DJ Bistro for making their space available for our meeting and serving us all such delicious traditional Czech dishes.
DJ Bistro, located at 1825 Sutter Street in Concord, is open for lunch and dinner.
They are also happy to cater your special event.

Dotazník pro potenciální účastníky
Virtuální U3V v Severní Americe
Questionnaire for potential participants in
Virtual U3A in North America

The form is intended for Czech compatriots living in North America aged 50 and older. The form is completely anonymous. It will take less than 5 minutes to complete this form.

30 years since Czechoslovakia's Velvet Divorce
Czechoslovakia becomes two countries -
Czech Republic and Slovak Republic

This January marks 30 years since the end of the common Czech and Slovak states. While some of the phenomena that ultimately led to the Czechoslovak split can be identified already in the early and mid-20th century, the separation of the two nations ended up being driven by politicians. Three decades later, Czechs regret the end of Czechoslovakia more than Slovaks.
