Share Your Story With Us

We are so excited to hear another story!

Thank you, Jaroslave, for sharing !

The first days of freedom

I managed to escape Czechoslovakia through another communist country of Yugoslavia and arrived in Austria on a train. The border patrol did not stop me. I had a proper visa in my passport. After I stepped off the train in Vienna, I felt a great relief and felt like celebrating my first day of freedom. But it was getting late in the day, so I did not allow myself even a beer. I needed to find a place to spend the night.

Jak volit korespondenčně v roce 2025 - přihláška k debatě:
Czech Embassy Bike Challenge 2024!
This year, our annual October 2024 cycling event, held in celebration of Czech Independence Day, comes with an exciting new twist.
We are drawing inspiration from the remarkable journey of Czech cyclist Martin Souček, who crossed the United States in just 8 days and 8 hours this June. Inspired by his journey, we are joining forces to support his fundraising efforts for palliative (end-of-life) care in the Czech Republic.

Don't live in Washington or want to bike less than 19.18 miles? Commuter is right for you!

Organize a ride with your community or ride your bike alone during the challenge period from September 28th - October 28th and share a picture of your ride with us!

Send an email czechembassybikechallenge@gmail.com or post to Facebook/Instagram: @czechembassydc, #czechembassybikechallenge.

If you can, add something Czech to the photo - it can be the Czech flag or your favorite Czech landmark - it's up to you!

For every mile, donate $1 to support palliative care in the Czech Republic.

Have fun with family and friends, and consider donating $19.18 to make a difference
