This Renewable Energy Company Could Increase Solar Capacity 50%
Xcel Energy has proposed an ambitious new power plan in Colorado that will retire coal-fired power plants and replace them with new wind and solar generation.  It may not be seen as a leader in renewable energy, but Colorado has quietly become one of the most ambitious states in the Lower 48 when it comes to modernizing its electric grid. more

Sono Sion Solar Electric Car Promises 18 miles of Range from Solar Panels
Solar cells have gotten cheap enough to make solar cars practical. At least that's the business model of one electric-car startup in Europe.  Sono Motors plans to build a $25,000 electric car covered in solar cells that can provide up to 18 miles of range a day. The company plans to introduce it at the end of 2019. more

10 Massive Corporations Going Big on Solar Power
American businesses are investing record amounts in solar, with the top corporate users adding 325 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity last year, according to the "Solar Means Business 2017" report from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).  The impact of corporate solar is significant: the solar installations analyzed in the SEIA report produce enough electricity to power 402,000 U.S. homes and offset 2.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year. more

How California is Bringing Solar Energy to Low-Income Renters
In central Los Angeles, just a couple of blocks from the intersection of two major freeways, an almost century-old, three-story brick apartment building stands.  The Alegria received a 34.5-kW DC solar photovoltaic system, a medium-sized system that will deliver an estimated $9,000 in savings annually to the  Esperanza Community Housing Corporation.  It's an approach that seems ideal for the area: Southern California has sunshine, an endless sea of rooftops - and a clean energy policy that's becoming a model for other states.
