Dear Friends,

Please pray this week for sixteen of our parish youth and six of our parish staff/chaperones who, along with myself, will be attending the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis 17-21 November. We plan on celebrating the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, with about 11,000 other youth and adults from all over the United States.

As I will be away this week there is NO DAILY MASS Wednesday through Friday this week. Father Morey will celebrate Masses in my absence at the Vigil Mass on November 20th at 5pm and the two Sunday Morning Masses on November 21st at 8am & 10:30am.  I hope to return for the 5PM Mass on Sunday. If I am unable to do so, Fr. Peter will be the celebrant!

This is the last weekend to take gift tags from the Giving Tree and still have a full week to shop and return it by Sunday, November 28, 2021. Remember, the gift descriptions are a guide. Please sign out the gift tags, attach them securely to the wrapped gifts or gift bags and return them by Sunday, November 28, 2021. Thank you for providing Christmas gifts to our less fortunate neighbors! See the flyer HERE for details.

The Knights of Columbus have begun their Keep Christ in Christmas campaign and will be selling Christmas Cards and Wreaths on the plaza this weekend after all Masses.

WinGS, Women in God's Service, is selling their Annual OLL Christmas Ornament featuring one of our stained glass windows in the church. Order your ornament HERE.

This is the Third Sunday of the Month. The deacons will offer a blessing for all married couples celebrating their anniversaries in November. Please stand and bow your heads when instructed to do so at the end of Mass.

Some brief, but important news and reminders:

November is our Annual Stewardship Month. Please view our Parish Ministries Booklet HERE. We have over 50 different Parish Ministries for you to get involved with here at OLL. There is truly something for everyone.

Do you use Amazon for your Christmas shopping? An easy way to support the parish is to switch to Amazon Smile and designate our parish as the recipient of a percentage of your purchase price. Amazon Smile sends a percentage of every purchase to your designated charity at no additional cost to you! Just log in to Amazon Smile and designate Our Lady of the Lake as your charity. The parish receives monies from Amazon Smile on a quarterly basis. If you use the Amazon Smile Mobile App you will need to renew your selection every six months!

The Synod on Synodality Survey is now available. We are asking all parishioners to take the survey. You may take the survey HERE or you may take it at a local Listening Session. Listening Sessions in the greater Columbia area may be found HERE. This list is updated regularly so check back often if none of the current dates work for your schedule.

Throughout the month of November the Parish will offer Prayers and Masses for all the Faithful Departed.

The 8:00AM Hospitality Hour has returned and, weather permitting, will be held outside. Otherwise, we will be in St. Ignatius Hall! The 10:30AM

NOTES OF IMPORTANCE FROM THE DIOCESE

SYNOD on SYNODALITY: What is it? Synodality (from Greek συν together + ὁδός way, journey) is how the Catholic Church describes its form of
government, differentiating it from democracy and monarchy. It is described by the International Theological Commission as "the decision to journey together" and "a prophetic sign for the human family, which needs a shared project capable of pursuing the good of all".

Synodality denotes the particular style that qualifies the life and mission of the Church. Meaning much more than an administration based on synods, it is the specific modus vivendi et operandi of the Church, where all members journey together, gather in assembly and take an active part in her mission. It is based on processes of listening, dialogue, and community discernment, in which each and every person can participate and contribute. (from Wikipedia)

For more information regarding the Synod, and to listen to the Bishop's Message on the Synod, visit: charlestondiocese.org/synod2023.

With President Biden's Covid Vaccine mandates in place, Bishop Guglielmone has issued a letter for those who may be seeking a religious exemption. You may download and print the letter for this purpose HERE. There is no need to request a letter from a priest.

PARISH FINANCIAL UPDATES

The Bishop's Annual Appeal needs your help! Currently only 20.62% of our parish households have made a contribution. Can we get this to 25%? I know we can! Won't you please consider donating to the BAA in support of our diocese and the parish? New pledges and gifts are shared 50/50 with the diocese and parish! You can donate HERE. Pledges or donations to the BAA can be made until 31 December 2021.

The weekly financial report is available HERE. Next week we will provide updates on our mortgage payments and on our BAA progress.

Please remember that every gift to the church helps, no matter the amount. We emphasize equal sacrifice--not equal giving! THANK YOU for your generosity and support!!

Prayer of Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly
to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
