Solid Waste Department Sponsorship Agreement Reimbursements NOT to be Cut in FY2017
The city will continue making $6 per month per residence payments to neighborhoods with private trash collection
Mayor Turner announced today the city would continue its sponsorship program for homeowner associations (HOAs) with private trash collection. The proposed Fiscal Year 2017 budget included a proposal to eliminate the $6 per residence per month payment to HOAs opting out of city trash collection. It costs the city $18 per residence per month to provide city trash service. After weighing the concerns of residents and learning many neighborhoods would return to city collection thereby costing the city more, the mayor decided against discontinuing the partial reimbursement payments.
"I am very grateful to Mayor Turner for listening to the citizens on this issue," said Council Member Travis, whose district includes 81 HOAs with private trash service. "Neighborhoods with private trash collection save the city money, so it makes good economic sense for the city to continue the payments."
Council Member Travis thanks all of the residents and community leaders who took the time to call and write to the mayor and council members to express their opinions regarding this important issue.
