There are ways for us to celebrate the holiday season without having negative impacts on the environment. Below are just a few tips we can follow to be less of a burden on the planet.

  • Reduce our purchases.
  • Buy recycled items.
  • Use LED lighting as they are much more efficient than traditional lights.
  • Send e-cards instead of paper cards or make sure the ones you buy have recycled content.
  • Compost your leftovers.
  • Eliminate using disposable plates, cups and utensils.
  • Pack your wrapping paper, ribbons and bows away with your decorations and reuse them next year.
  • Compost or recycle your Christmas tree.
  • Instead of a gift, donate to an environmental organization.
  • Recycle all of your old electronics, clothing and batteries.
  • Buy locally manufactured gifts that do not require shipping.
Christmas Tree and Light Recycling
The Brunswick County Landfill will be accepting live Christmas trees for recycling from county residents and property owners at NO CHARGE between December 31, 2020 and January 31, 2021. During this time, Christmas trees will also be accepted at the convenient sites for $5.00 per tree.

Christmas string lights and cords are accepted all year at the sites at no charge as part of the electronics recycling program.

The landfill hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 5 pm and Saturday from 7:30 am until 3 pm. The convenience sites hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 am until 6 pm.
Computers for Kids
Are you getting a new desktop or laptop computer this Christmas? Did you know that instead of trashing your old ones, you can donate them to Brunswick County's Computers for Kids program?
Computers for Kids accepts old computers (equipped with Windows XP or later), flat screen monitors (working), mice and keyboards, and power cords. They wipe all hard drives, repair the computers, install new software and give them to students throughout Brunswick County.
BC Computers for Kids is located in building F at the Government Complex in Bolivia. They are typically on site Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am until 3pm. For more information you can visit their website or you can contact them via email.
