Magical Murder Mystery
Thursday, April 16 at 5:30 PM

Main Library, Large Program Room

A seasoned mentalist, magician, and hypnotist with decades of experience performing across the country, Mark Zacharia blends psychology, illusion, humor, and audience participation into something that has to be seen to be believed.

This is not a night where you sit back and watch. You are part of the investigation, helping uncover clues, questioning what you see, and working alongside fellow audience members to solve the mystery as it unfolds live. Expect mind reading, psychological illusions, unexpected twists, and a finale that will leave you questioning everything. Perfect for fans of mysteries, magic, and interactive theater. No two performances are ever the same, and no one in the room is off the hook.

A Conversation with Maria Pepe

Sunday, April 19 at 3:00 PM

Hoboken Historical Museum (1301 Hudson St)

In 1972, eleven-year-old Maria Pepe showed up to Little League tryouts in her hometown, glove in hand, ready to compete. She could hit, pitch, and catch as well as any of the boys, and she made the team. What happened next changed the course of Little League history forever. This powerful true story, told from Maria's own perspective, is a moving celebration of resilience and bravery that reminds young readers that one person standing their ground can change the rules for everyone.

Staff Picks

City of Others

by Jared Poon

Benjamin Toh's job description is simple enough: keep Singapore's supernatural residents happy, keep them hidden, and absolutely do not let any of it become management's problem. It's not glamorous work, but it's manageable. Until an entire housing estate blinks out of existence on what was supposed to be a routine check-in, and suddenly Ben is scrambling to hold a city together with no budget, a skeleton crew, and a team that is, generously speaking, highly irregular.

Poon has built something genuinely delightful here, a workplace comedy, a supernatural thriller, and a love letter to Singapore all at once. Funny, inventive, and propulsive, this is the kind of book that makes you wish you worked somewhere half as interesting.

Midnights with You

by Clare Osongco

Deedee wants out. Out of her grief-heavy house, out of the suffocating world her mother built after loss, and out into something that finally feels like her own life. When Jay, the boy next door, offers to teach her to drive, it feels like a door cracking open. But both of them are carrying more than they've let on, and the closer they get, the harder it becomes to outrun what's waiting at home.

Osongco writes about family, grief, and first love with real tenderness and precision. The kind of YA that stays with you.

Nat the Cat Has a Hat

by Jarrett Lerner

Nat the Cat has a hat. Pat the Rat has a better one. You can probably see where this is going.

Jarrett Lerner keeps things delightfully simple in this early reader, letting the rhyme and rhythm do the heavy lifting while sneaking in something genuinely sweet about friendship and wanting what someone else has.

Perfect for new readers who are just discovering the magic of words that sound alike, and the grown-ups who will happily read it five times in a row.
