We had a lengthy meeting last week with Jimmy Butera. Jimmy has been importing wines into this market since the 70's . Our tasting encompassed 18 bottles, all excellent. Today we wanted to mention three selections which we think are exceptional values.

All of the very best, Rex and Michele

  1. ( white-Sicily ) 2015 Brancioforti Grillo Del Bordonaro, $17.50
This Grillo has exceptional structure and balance. The flavor profile is one of apricot, orange zest and lemon with medium body at mid palate and a very long very dry crisp finish. Great minerality, racy acids. Seafood for sure, spicy baby back ribs, definite.  (39 bottles only )

Everyone who tasted has bought!  Beautiful white wine for our upcoming spring and summer temps!  m
  1. ( red- Umbria ) 2015 Castello Di  Magione  Sangiovese $21.50
Velvety smooth tannins, blueberry for days, and mocha and smoke mixed with those blueberries. Elegant with a big middle and long finish. This Sangio does not taste like anything in this price point and is easily big enough to compliment highly charred red meat.

This is one of those easy drinkers!!  So good, I drank my share and then some, both during the tasting and later at dinner.  m

  1. 2009 Casavecchio Langhe Rosso Pian del Lupo Rosso $39.75
Langhe is the township next to Barolo and like Barolo is made of 100 percent Nebbiolo. 2009 is a classic, harmonious vintage which drinks wonderfully today. This wine tastes far above the price and has been library cellared. Exotic spice, rich smoky plums and enchanting flowers on the nose. This is a special occasion wine under $40.00.  ( going fast, only 20 bottles left )

Sold out to a handful of collectors, quickly called and they found us a handful more.  Very food worthy as well..little BYOB still working out kinks, but the pork milanese was awesome that night! m
