Rescue Ranger
November 2020
The holidays are fast approaching and in this month's rescue ranger we are highlighting several items that will allow you to cross off gifts from your shopping list as well as help raise money to rescue dogs in need.

Our calendars are always popular and the beautiful new planning calendar will make a great gift for a friend, neighbor, or special teacher in your life. Our Fall clothing fundraiser offers comfy sweatshirts and lounge pants that will keep you warm this winter and, with your purchase, Complete Pet Care Animal Hospital will donate up to $10,000 in services for NRGRR at their hospitals! We also have some special hand made items from young supporters wanting to help raise money for us which can be found in the Heart-2-Rescue section below.
Meet and Greets
It has been wonderful to be able to hold our Meet and Greets over the last month and Zoomy Dogs in Durham has been an amazing host. Unfortunately, with limited available dogs and government restrictions getting tighter with COVID cases increasing, our Meet and Greets will be held on a case by case basis through at least the end of the year. We will announce our plans on our Meet and Greet webpage a couple of days before the scheduled date, which is the first and third Saturday of the month.

Zoomy Dogs is located at 5420 NC-55, Durham, NC 27713. Take exit 278 for Highway 54/55 off I-40. Travel south toward Apex for one mile and Zoomy Dogs will be on the right at the intersection with Sedwick Rd.
While our community events have been paused, we are not “pawsing” our commitment to rescue, rehab, and adopt dogs in need. Your donations are needed now more than ever.

For the latest on the practices and precautions we are following, please visit our COVID-19 Response page.

Heart-2-Rescue
This month we are highlighting several very special supporters including some young philanthropists who are selling hand made products to raise money for NRGRR.

What other ideas do you have to help us raise money to support our rescue efforts? You can share your ideas by reaching out to Kerry Ahrend. And of course we would love for you to take action and help us implement some of these ideas!
Petals 4 Paws
Suri and Nikki Gupta and using their creative talents to raise money for NRGRR. They have made some beautiful flower pencil arrangements that they are selling to friends, neighbors, and through their doctors’ offices in order to support the NRGRR mission to Rescue, Rehab, and Adopt. They have even approached their local pet store about selling the flowers there as well.

The flower pencil arrangements sell for $25 and 50% of the proceeds goes to NRGRR. The rest is to cover their expenses. If you would like to purchase a flower arrangement for a friend or special teacher, you can do so by reaching out directly to Mousami at mousami.gupta@gmail.com.

We hope you will support their efforts to help NRGRR save more dogs! THANK YOU Suri and Nikki for your heart to rescue!
Custom Coasters
Abby Lessy, a sophomore at Heritage High School, is making coasters to raise money for NRGRR. All the proceeds and donations will go toward NRGRR rescue efforts for vetting and transporting dogs in need.

The price for the coasters are 4 for $10. Abby has the prints you see here available for purchase but you may also request special fabrics such as an NC State pattern or a paw print pattern.

If you’re interested in ordering contact Abby through email at alessycoasters@gmail.com

THANK YOU Abby for your heart to rescue!

Mike Ellis and his daughter Sophie have a travel podcast called "On the Road with Mickey" where they discuss some of their favorite things to see and do at Walt Disney World. This fall, they began a new feature called Charity Spotlight where they also talk about a special charity they support. As with the Magic Kingdom, NRGRR has a special place in their heart and they have chosen us to be their charity spotlight through the end of the year.

If you are also a fan of everything Disney, check out their On the Road with Mickey Podcast. THANK YOU Mike and Sophie for your heart to rescue!
NRGRR Fall Clothing Fundraiser
We are excited to be partnering with Complete Pet Care Animal Hospital for our Fall clothing fundraiser. This Fall, we are offering two styles of hooded sweatshirts, one with a front pouch pocket and one with a zipper front. Both have a new NRGRR design on back. We also have new comfy lounge pants with a NRGRR logo on one leg.

Post a picture of your pet and yourself in your new outfit to one of our social media sites and tag with #NRGRR. Complete Pet Care Animal Hospitals will donate another $50 in services for each tagged picture submitted for a maximum total of $10,000. So post those pictures to help us reach the goal!
NRGRR International Rescue
Over the past month we have brought in eight additional international dogs, bringing the total to 27 rescued from Turkey, China, and Kosovo in 2020.

In late October we welcomed 6 dogs from China, which completes the Paws Across the Ocean rescue mission. The mission brought over 99 dogs to nine rescue organizations across the U.S. This was an amazing feat given all the challenges with COVID. Many dedicated volunteers endured a lot of last minute changes and hoops to jump through to make this mission successful.

We have plans to bring in six additional dogs from Turkey if we can raise the necessary funds. Your donation will help us rescue these and other beautiful Golden Retrievers from overseas. Click the button below to learn more about our international rescue efforts and make your donation today!
19th Annual Golden on the Green
Virtual Charity Golf Tournament
The Golden on the Green Charity Golf Tournament has been a treasured tradition for 18 years, and over the years it has become like a family reunion. We want to keep the tradition alive for the 19th annual tournament, but given the COVID situation, we made the difficult decision to hold a virtual tournament this year instead of gathering together as we usually do.

The Golden on the Green Charity Golf Tournament is one of our biggest annual fundraisers and we hope you will honor the tradition and participate virtually this year so we can continue to support the Goldens in need. We have two ways you can participate; 1) by registering and playing a round in support of NRGRR and 2) by making a tee sponsorship.

The virtual tournament will run through November 30th and you can enter (play) as many rounds as you like. Click the button below for more information and to register.
Virtual Tee Sponsorships
Support the NRGRR Golden on the Green Charity Virtual Golf Tournament with a tee sponsorship. For a $100 donation you can honor your pet or loved one with a virtual "In Honor of" or "In Memory of" tee sign. Click the button above for more information and to purchase your sponsorship.

Thank you to our Tee Sponsors!
Medical Tip of the Month
An Introduction to CBD

In this month's medical blog post, our Medical Coordinator Katie McKay introduces us to Cannabidiol, or CBD. In part 1 of a 2 part series, Katie provides several questions to ask yourself if you are considering using CBD as a therapy for your pet. She also discusses the state of the science and for which conditions it might be reasonable to consider using it.
And Why Do You Foster?
FOSTERS NEEDED...the “life-blood” of most rescues are their fosters. You simply CANNOT save lives without fosters. After being pulled from a shelter, or an owner surrenders their family pet, the dog needs a place to land for medical care (if needed), training perhaps, and a safe environment where they can build confidence and prepare to meet their forever family. Fostering saves lives, and you can be part of our rewarding mission to Rescue.Rehab.Adopt.
Foster Spotlight: Kristina Chappell
Kristina has fostered four dogs for NRGRR over the past year and a half, one of which she adopted and named Bella (China Bel). Kristina says that Bella is the best part of her life and that Bella encourages her to continue fostering and advocate for the breed. She loves to help save dogs and find loving homes with families who will love and appreciate Goldens the way she does. "It is one of the best feelings!" says Kristina.

Kristina has fostered for other rescues in the past but has a special passion and place in her heart for Golden Retrievers. She heard about NRGRR and was inspired by our mission to rescue and protect Goldens, golden-mixes, and golden-hearted dogs in need.

Turkey Joy and Bella
One of the things she really enjoys about fostering is being able to see the progress and transformation the dogs make. They often begin their journey scared, anxious, fearful and/or sick. Being able to witness them becoming playful and confident pets, with loving personalities, is incredible says Kristina. Also, fostering gives her the opportunity to meet and connect with other animal advocates who share the same interests.
Kristina wants anyone who is hesitant about fostering with NRGRR to know that they will have a great support group and resources available that will help guide them through any problems, medical needs, behavioral questions, etc. Kristina’s advice to a new foster is to always be honest about your foster dog and any issues you encounter—NRGRR will be there to support you! NRGRR will also help find a foster that is right for you. She adds that “crate training and baby gates are always a great idea.”
Pax
Tuffy
Kristina admits to growing attached to her fosters. “I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to keep them all! You have to remind yourself how great fostering is for you and your pet.” Finding a new home for your foster dog will help keep you in that mindset.

Kristina creates an Instagram for all of her foster pets to help advertise them on social media and she posts weekly updates. She takes her foster dogs to as many places as she can to socialize them, work on behavior, and find potential adopters.
“Fostering with NRGRR is such a fun and rewarding experience! I still receive photos from each of my previous foster dogs and their new families, and it reminds me why I do what I do. Each dog has made an impact in my life, and I know I have been a crucial part of theirs.” Kristina hopes you will consider fostering for NRGRR.

Kristina Chappell, THANK YOU for all you do to support NRGRR and our mission to Rescue.Rehab.Adopt!

If you or your family are interested in fostering please see our foster page to read the steps to foster and complete the application. If you have any questions about fostering, please reach out to our foster coordinator, Mimi Suddath.
